Duran Duran and Wyclef Jean Will Rock the Seaport

This event was canceled. Update below.

The South Street Seaport Museum is hosting its first ever DOCK ROCKS - Party on the Piers, an annual concert and boat party fundraiser in support of the Museum on Tuesday, August 4, beginning at 5pm on Piers 15 and 16, South Street Seaport. Starring on the bill are English rockers Duran Duran w/special guest Wyclef Jean. Tickets are $55 for general admission, with VIP options available, and are now on sale at dockrocks.com and dockrocks.eventbrite.com.

Formed in 1980, the band Duran Duran (named after a character in the film Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda) hail from Birmingham, England. They were at the forefront of the second British Invasion in the 80s thanks to their constant video airplay on MTV. Three decades later, the band continues to evolve, fusing their music with art, fashion and technology. To date have sold 100+ million records, been honored with seven Lifetime Achievement Awards, bassist John Taylor is an author, and they continue to perform for screaming fans worldwide.

On Sept. 11, Duran Duran will release their 14th studio album, Paper Gods, through Warner Bros. Records, with A-list producers Mark Ronson, Mr. Hudson, Nile Rodgers and Josh Blair.

The evening will also feature special guest Wyclef Jean, multiple Grammy Award-winner and founder of The Fugees. He has produced and collaborated with such artists as Shakira ("Hips Don't Lie"), Bono, Mary J Blige, Pitbull, Santana, and most recently, global megastar, Avicii; their upcoming joint album includes the first released single, "Divine Sorrow," this year's World Aids Day Song for PRODUCT(Red).

Doors open at 4:30pm, with opening acts at 5pm, including the "Swatch Presents Emerging Artists" Showcase, from 5-6:30pm, presented by The Swatch Group, Pledge Music & Fieldhouse Music.

DOCK ROCKS 2015 will showcase rising stars, superstars and surprise guest performances across five hours of unforgettable Main Stage music. The concert stage is on Pier 16 with nearby Pier 15 as a secondary viewing pier.

"Dock Rocks will be instrumental in our efforts to revitalize the Seaport Museum post-Sandy. The concert will showcase the Seaport Museum's historic ships to nearly 6,000 visitors in a completely unique way," said Captain Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum. "This inaugural celebratory fundraiser for the Museum will support the reinvigoration of the programming that only the Seaport Museum can offer: on-water education programs, interpretation of the original port of New York, our collections, historic buildings, and fleet of ships."

UPDATE:

South Street Seaport Museum announced the cancellation of DOCK ROCKS - Party on the Piers. Their statement is below.

"After a tremendous amount of effort to maintain the date for next week, we are extremely disappointed to say that as of this morning we have had to cancel Dock Rocks due to unforeseen issues at the site," said Captain Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum  "We had an incredible response to the event, which included a selection of VIP boat experiences, alongside the concert on the pier, but location logistics have now precluded our moving forward with Tuesday's event in the way that we had originally envisioned.  Our plan is to host an alternative fundraiser in the fall, that will include many of the same performances, as well as an opportunity to enjoy everything that the Seaport has to offer, while supporting the Museum that was so badly damaged during Hurricane Sandy. We thank our sponsors and partners within the city for their help in planning."
