Disassembler, Maria Antelman - Pioneer Works
Through February 10, 2019 - Brooklyn

In Disassembler, Maria Antelman presents eight installation works across three floors of the Pioneer Works building. Antelman creates collage-like videos that pull from a well of sources, including scenarios about rewilding the American West, ideas of techno-animism, and early reconnaissance images from outer space. Crafted from unexpected juxtapositions, her often foreboding filmic compositions decode what it means to exist in a networks system. In the third floor gallery, Antelman will debut the namesake video installation Disassembler, newly commissioned by Pioneer Works and co-produced by the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens (EMST). Titled after a computer tool that translates machine code into assembly language for humans to understand, the piece raises questions about the physical and psychological impact of automation processes on the individual and society. Disassembler confronts a post-automated experience, where bodies and gestures return to an organic, experiential world.

Puzzling: New Language Acquisition - Pioneer Works
February 12, 2019 - Brooklyn

A puzzle is something puzzling– it expects deduction and solution, while at the same time describes a condition of open confusion. The six-part series "Puzzling" considers these concurrent modes to explore different registers of knowing, the generative possibilities of uncertainty, and the film form as a choreography of sense and stimuli. How can a puzzle, as a challenge and as a structure, destabilize or shape the world? How are the boundaries of sense and non-sense policed? Human and non-human test subjects, compromised figures of authority, and metaphysical detectives populate the series, alongside inquiries on communication, abstraction, and agency.

The album features Lennox's bright, sincere voice along with his beatific approach to melodic structure and vocal phrasing, with miles of space surrounding it, a guitar and a few textured samples fleshing out the dubby sparseness and undercurrent of speaker-limit-pushing sub-bass low-end. Animated by their ongoing interest in contemporary music production techniques, it retains a deep layer of experimentation coursing through its hyper-modern production—a hallmark of Panda Bear releases that will feel intimately familiar to fans of Lennox's decade-plus body of work.

Tainted Love - 80's Dance Party with Dj Jane Elizabeth - February Edition - The Bell House
February 15, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Soft Cell's pioneering 1981 cover of the Northern Soul classic, "Tainted Love," is the inspiration for this awesome 80s dance party. Building on a solid foundation of New Wave, we'll dig deeper into the catalog of massive hits and overlooked misses from the late 70s through the early 90s - pivotal years in musical history that blurred the lines between Analog and Digital, Disco and Synthpop, Funk and Hip-Hop. A time when Alternative was called Post-Punk, Indie actually meant independent, and Throbbing Gristle's "Hot on the Heels of Love" surely could have been alongside Blondie's "Heart of Glass" on the charts...with today's perspective. Other passions include CBGB-era New York, Batcave-era London - Punk Rock, Glam Rock, Kraut Rock, Girl Rock, Dad Rock, Rockabilly, Ska, Machine Soul, Blue-Eyed Soul, Darkwave, Coldwave - plus some guilty pleasures in the (strictly) Old-School Rap department.

Through February 17, 2019 - Brooklyn

'Pop-Porn' is Neo-Pop Erotica for the Masses! Five artists celebrate all forms of intimacy; untethered, unabashed, and unbound. Pop-Porn will debut at MF Gallery in Brooklyn on Jan.12th 2019. Curated by Matt Myers, aka Eronin, Pop-Porn spotlights five artists working with modern concepts of eroticism and desire, and how it is essential to us right now. Exhibition curator Matt Myers has worked and shown his art at Sotheby’s NY auction house since 2001. He became keenly aware of a cross-connect between Pop-Art and Eroticism, and the idea of Pop-Porn emerged as a platform to showcase a group of artists sharing this vision. The artists selected to participate in the Pop-Porn exhibition are: Eronin, Fernando Carpaneda, Ellen Stagg, Martina Secondo Russo and Anna Park. Just like Warhol, Wesselmann and Lichtenstein drew from everyday images from mass media and popular culture to create Pop-Art, Pop-Porn also draws from mass media, but from more provocative sources. There is a ever-growing trend in major venues and even auction houses to promote erotica as valid and essential. For two years in a row, Sotheby’s London has celebrated erotica in their highly successful public auctions ... (read more)
