Fact Craft: Study Hall - Pioneer Works

As a part of Fact Craft, Pioneer Books hosts Study Hall. During Study Hall, interested participants can informally meet and collaborate on their own actions with access to related resources. Each Fact Craft program is intended as a catalyst to critically engage with the production of 'facts'. Study Hall is an open space to help fuel collaboration and project development. Study Hall invites you to use Fact Craft as a framework for creative investigation, and to present your findings during our final program in November. Internationally renowned contemporary dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal, under legendary German choreogrpapher Pina Bausch's direction, has stood at the forefront of expressionist dance-theater since its inception in 1976. Over three decades since its New York debut at BAM, the company returns to restage the original double bill as part of the 2017 Next Wave Festival. Set to the music of Henry Purcell, Cafe Muller was inspired by Bausch's childhood memories of watching her father work in his cafe in Germany during and post WWII. Alongside this dark, reflective and wildly beautiful piece, the company will perform Bausch's interpretation of Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring, a frenzied carnival of passion, fear and desire.

Nickodemus has been touring as a DJ all over the world since the mid-1990s. As a producer, he has three albums and remix albums–Endangered Species, Sun People, and Moon People. Nickodemus has created mixes for a wide range of artists including Bob Marley, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Thievery Corporation, Quantic, Mr Scruff, The Pimps of Joytime, Miguel Migs, and Natasha Atlas. Nickodemus is known for his Turntables on the Hudson parties, and his own WONDERWHEEL Recordings label has attracting artists including Alsarah and the Nubatones, Novalima, The Pimps of Joytime, The Spy from Cairo, Chancha Via Circuito, and Sorceress.Tara Dixon is a painter who has maintained a studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn for 20 years. She has taught art at The Packer Collegiate Institute, The Laughing and Language Studio, and Creatively Wild Studio. A graduate of Connecticut College, she studied at The Art Student's League and was a teacher's assistant at The New School. She started the method-based T.A.R.A.and the non-profit The Gratitude House, a charity that creates awareness of gratitude through the arts. The Green Team provides essential horticultural care to the Park, including planting, mulching, and removing invasive plants. The Green Team is a wonderful opportunity to learn about gardening, enjoy nature, and make the Park look its best. All volunteers must fill out a waiver and bring it to their first volunteer activity in the park. Volunteers 18 years old or younger should submit their waiver signed by a parent or guardian before any activity begins; volunteers 16 years old or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No experience necessary. Groups with 10 members or fewer are welcome to join in Green Team sessions. Space is limited. Please fill out a Green Team Group Form to request a date.

Sounds Unseen: a Photographic Memoir of the Calais Sessions - The Dumbo Improvement District

Sounds Unseen: A Photographic Memoir of The Calais Sessions chronicles a collaborative music project between musicians living in the UK and musicians living in the temporary refugee camps of Northern France. Between December 2015 and May 2016, photographer Sarah Hickson made a number of visits to the temporary refugee camps of Northern France to photograph The Calais Sessions – a live music project among musicians living in the UK, the 'Jungle' camp in Calais, and La Grande Synthe in Dunkirk. For the refugees she met, The Calais Sessions provided a welcome opportunity to tell their stories, to play and share the music from their homelands, or to pick up an instrument and join with other musicians. Sounds Unseen: A Photographic Memoir of The Calais Sessions chronicles the evolution of this remarkable collaboration and celebrates a vital human connection forged through the common voice of music.

New York Road Runners invite you to join their free Tuesday night Open Runs! Whether you're a first time runner, a seasoned marathoner, or you prefer to walk, you're welcome along. No need to register in advance; sign-in takes place on site. Volunteers track the timing and marshal the course, but please leave your valuables at home as bag check is not provided. To participate, meet on the path south of Fornino at Pier 6 at 6:45pm for registration. The run begins at 7:00pm and the course comprises a full 5K. NYRR Open Runs are open to all ages.
