How to Prepare for a Stylish Trip to NYC

Visiting the Big Apple is on many people’s to-do list, yet a lot of us have to plan, prepare, and save for our dream trip. It’s no surprise then, that we all want to look our best, so that we can have the time of our lives when it comes to visiting New York City, infamous for its charm, culture, and, most of all, fashion. With the summer fast approaching, here’s how you can prepare for a stylish trip to NYC.

Sunscreen

NYC can get very hot in the heat of the summer, and so you should pack proper sunscreen so that you can have a layer of protection. Although a lot of cosmetics have SPF, you’ll be spending a lot of your time outside, so you need to pack proper sunscreen. Learn how to apply it underneath your makeup if you can’t run the risk of leaving your hotel room without your foundation, and make sure you apply it regularly. 

There are many types of sunscreen for specific skin types, so make sure you choose what’s best for you. According to research from the American Academy of Dermatology, it is recommended to apply 1 ounce of sunscreen at least fifteen minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours.

Lipcare

Just as your skin can become dry under hot weather, so can your lips. Pack a nude lip balm for the day, so you keep your lipssupple for the night time, where you can wear bold colors. Make sure you pack a range of colors that suit your outfits; after all, in the city of Instagram famous bloggers and cute, quirky locations perfect for your own Insta-worthy photoshoots, you’ll want to be prepared.

Haircare

Hair has the inclinationto burn under the hot summer sun, just as much as your skin; you’re far more unaware of this, though. How much your hair burns depends on how much time you spend under the sun. Spending time at the beach or in the water increases this damage, along with other factors like UV rays, salt water, chlorine and wind. 

Once under the sun, the protein structure in your hair starts to change, weakening your hair leading to dry and brittle strands, and a lack in elasticity and luster. One way of preventing this is by applying sun protection cream to your hair parting using a cotton bud or invest in some sun protecting hair sprays to guard your hair against discoloration, dryness and heat damage.

Sunglasses will always look fashionable. Be sure to pack a few pairs, the ones that go with every outfit, and that can also protect your eyes properly. Investing in a pair of proper sunglasses before you leave is advisable. Buy a good quality sunglasses case as well. 

Hay fever medication

Like any place, NYC can be prone to high-pollen counts, resulting in hay fever for those who suffer from symptoms. Before you leave, pack all your hay fever medication, so that you don’t have to suffer from red eyes and a red, sniffly nose. However, if you do forget or run out, you can visit an allergist in NYC, meaning you can continue to enjoy your vacation with minimal disruption. 

Multivitamins

A change in weather and routine and the transition from hectic, working life to relaxed and stress-free may make you prone to catch the common cold. We all know that nothing sucks more than being bedridden on your well-deserved time off, so make sure to pack some multivitamins in case you start to feel under the weather during your adventures.

You’ll no doubt be out and about in the heat exploring the many different things and places you can do in NYC. Always carry a bottle of water around with you, especially when you spend a lot of time outside in the heat. Heat exhaustion can happen often, and symptoms can include headaches, dizziness and confusion, excessive sweating and intense thirst amongst others. If these happens, the person needs to get somewhere cooler away from the heat, lie down with their feet elevated and drink plenty offluids. Make sure you’re keeping yourself hydrated and be aware of the symptoms!
