Ask Me Another W/ Vip Guests: Bob The Drag Queen And Monet X Change - The Bell House
January 22, 2019 - Brooklyn,

Puzzlemaster Will Shortz and Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me! host Peter Sagal walk into a bar... No, it's not the start of a joke. It's the essence of Ask Me Another, a rambunctious hour that blends brainteasers and local pub trivia night with comedy and music. Host Ophira Eisenberg invites in-studio guests and listeners alike to stretch their noggins, tickle their funny bones, and enjoy witty banter and guitar riffs from house musician Jonathan Coulton. For an hour, listeners can play along as Eisenberg puts questions to a rotating band of puzzle gurus, audience members and special mystery guests, who then takes a turn in the contestant's chair facing trivia games written especially for him or her. What you'll hear resembles the casual intimacy of game night at a friend's house: one where scores are forgotten in favor of hilarious gaffes. Ask Me Another is recorded live at The Bell House in Brooklyn, NY. Ask Me Another is a co-production of NPR and WNYC.

January 23, 2019 - Brooklyn

King Princess Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, King Princess is a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer. The product of a musical family, she spent much of her childhood tinkering on the vintage Neve board in her father’s Brooklyn studio Mission Sound, learning instrumentation along the way. She studied there for a year with legendary pianist and singer Patrice Rushen before leaving USC to pursue music full time.

The End of the World with Josh Clark, or How I Learned to Start Worrying and Love Humanity - The Bell House
January 24, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Have you wondered how humanity might go extinct? Nuclear war? Climate change? Both would be really bad for us, sure. You can even imagine that they might kill off 99% of everyone alive. Again, bad. But there's a big difference between 99% extinct and fully, totally 100% extinct - so much of a difference that when you lay it out, losing that last 1% of humanity is much, much worse than the first 99% dying. Why? Because humanity has a bright, long future ahead and if we accidentally wipe ourselves out then we lose that future too. It just so happens that we are entering a time when the chances of accidentally wiping ourselves out are greater than ever. The technology we're beginning to dabble in but don't fully understand - AI, biotech, nanotech, high-energy physics experiments - these will be the very things that advance our civilization headlong into that bright future. If we can survive figuring out how they work. Join Stuff You Should Know podcaster Josh Clark for an eye-opening (eye-popping, really) exploration of existential risks, those reasons why we humans might not be around anymore a hundred or so years from now.

Daniel Romano, T. Hardy Morris - Knitting Factory
January 24, 2019 - Brooklyn

DANIEL ROMANO is an Ontario-based artist, poet, musician and performer of international acclaim. A genre-defying student of musical experimentation and a brilliant multi-instrumentalist, Romano is acutely well versed in the languages of melody, shape, lyric construction and song arrangement. Apt in its title, MODERN PRESSURE will surely prove to be his most explorative endeavour to date. The twelve tracks pick up where 2016's critically celebrated MOSEY left off, boldly asking, "What age is this? What blooming weight do we carry through these stolen streets?" Written in observational scrutiny beneath the overcast atmosphere of 2016, the record vigorously tackles the present-day heaviness we contain in the jotting bones of our guilty expressions. It pleads for the restoration of empathy and resonance, to fill the empty chamber once again.

The Lucas Brothers - The Bell House
January 25, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Comedians, actors, and writers The Lucas Bros (Keith and Kenny Lucas) continue their rise as two of the freshest, most dynamic new faces on the comedy scene. "In a short time….the Lucas Brothers have made a big impact on comedy," lauds Vulture, and on Tuesday April 18, 2017, the guys' first hour standup special The Lucas Bros: On Drugs premiered on Netflix. They were also recently seen as recurring characters on Season 1 of the hit Netflix series Lady Dynamite starring fellow comic Maria Bamford. Keith and Kenny are the creators of the animation series Lucas Bros. Moving Co., which aired for one season on Fox's Animation Domination Hi-Def block in 2014 and for a second season on FXX. The brothers voiced the series' main characters; narrating hilarious, absurdist tales with, as The New York Times praised, "a disarming sweetness and a clever, stylized casualness." The brothers also hosted the web series The Super Late Morning Show on ComedyCentral.com, which premiered in February 2013. Additionally, The Bros starred in two seasons of the weekly sketch comedy series Friends of the People on TruTV, and they were featured in the FOX primetime series The Gr... (read more)

This is who we all are, and this is what HELL'S BELLES strives to deliver with mechanical precision and passionate fury. Endorsed by Angus Young himself (Blender Magazine, 2003), HELL'S BELLES are the closest one can get without actually moving to Australia and joining AC/DC's road crew. The current line-up features original member Laura D, heavy hitter as Phil Rudd (drums), Mandy Reed, rock solid and born ready as Cliff Williams (Bass guitar), Lisa Brisbois, sly and subtly intense as part time Malcolm Young, Sharon Needles of Betty Blowtorch/Butt Trumpet fame part time Malcolm Young (Rhythm guitar), all the way from Australia, Amber Saxon the kind of hard rock bombastic power that makes no apologies and is dangerous around the edges as Bon Scott & Brian Johnson (Vocals) and Adrian Conner, dreadlock slinger and wicked as Angus Young (lead Guitar). ... The Rub - The Bell House

The Values, Pinc Louds, Grayhunter - Knitting Factory
January 26, 2019 - Brooklyn

The Values understand there is a singular magic about the combination of synthesizers and the human voice. That mix of cutting edge technology and deep vulnerability, of digital sounds and flesh and blood, of sleek and portable, portable yet opulent. It's a city sound, sexy and rich and forward moving. There's nothing like it -- Suicide knew it in the grimy 70s. Yaz and Erasure knew it in the glossy 80s. LCD Soundsystem knows it in the 21st century. You can hear that on the Values' first EP.
