In the course of a dozen recordings – six of which have climbed to the top of Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Album charts – the supergroup has continued to explore the limitless dimensions and permutations of jazz while at the same time appealing to a broad mainstream audience. The Fourplay story begins in 1990, with keyboardist Bob James, who had already established himself as a formidable figure in keyboard jazz – not just as an instrumentalist but as a composer and arranger as well – with solo recordings dating as far back as the mid 1960s. In 1990, James reunited with his old friend, session drummer, producer, composer & recording artist Harvey Mason (Herbie Hancock, Barbra Streisand, Notorious Big), during the recording of James' Grand Piano Canyon album. Also involved in the project were guitarist Lee Ritenour (Sergio Mendes) and bassist/vocalist Nathan East (Barry White, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins). The Grand Piano Canyon sessions marked the gene... The Score - Mercury Lounge
December 07, 2017 - New York

TO OUR FANS: We started writing together six years ago, and had no idea where it would take us. Just two dudes in New York, learning how to write and produce. We wrote a lot of bad songs, and tried a lot of different things. We moved to LA and wrote more songs, and tried more different things...like recording in Edan's bedroom closet. And one pop song we wrote happened to land in a commercial, and that commercial happened to be really big. 'Spotify Viral #1' big. 'Major label record-deal' big. 'Worldwide booking agency' big. And all that was really cool, but we had a problem -- we weren't actually a pop band. We like guitars. We like rock and roll. And we like it loud. So we started doing what we like, and it's been pretty damn cool so far. Our new EP Myths & Legends is four of the most honest songs we've ever written, and we think our fans reactions say it all: "Who ever Disliked song, I will find you and force you to listin to this song Intel you regret your life choices." - Chase Cornett "The best song I have ever heard" - Mr. Nightmare and... "The Score=GOAT 'Like' if they never disappoint you!!!" - DawnCS We hope you like the new music, but if you don't...Chase ... (read more)

The War & Treaty - Mercury Lounge
December 08, 2017 - New York

The War and Treaty: the name itself represents the pull between trauma and tranquility; music inspired by darkness and despair that ultimately finds a higher spiritual purpose. It's a sound manifested on the group's upcoming EP, Down to the River. For Michael Trotter Jr., the journey began in 2004, when he arrived in Iraq, an untested soldier stricken by fear and self-doubt. His captain made it his personal mission to see to Trotter's survival. The unit was encamped in one of Saddam Hussein's private palaces, and in a forgotten corner in its basement, they found a black upright piano that once belonged to the dictator himself. When Trotter shared the fact he could sing, he was encouraged to teach himself to play piano on that confiscated keyboard. "I wrote my first song after that captain was killed," Trotter recalls. "I sang it for his memorial in Iraq." Soon after it became his mission to sing at the memorial services for those that had fallen. For the next three years, he sang songs that brought solace and comfort to the members of his unit. His efforts eventually garnered wider recognition as well. He came in first place in "Military Idol," the army's version of "American I... (read more)

Muscadine Bloodline - Mercury Lounge
December 08, 2017 - New York

Muscadine Bloodline's Gary Stanton and Charlie Muncaster both grew up playing music in Mobile, Alabama, withmutual friends saying they should connect. But their first official meeting didn't happen until about six years ago, when Muncaster's college band was playing a show in Mobile and needed an opening act. Stanton got the call. During his junior year at the University of Southern Mississippi, Stanton started his own band and the two began swapping opening slots and writing together. After graduation in 2015, Stanton headed to Nashville while Muncaster commuted from Alabama to play and write with him. In October of that year, Muncaster made his move and, the very next week, the guys were in the studio cutting three songs. Muscadine Bloodline became a reality upon their release in December 2015, and we haven't looked back since, Stanton says. They have, however, spent most of their weekends on the road, gigging across the Southland because they believe in making their fans the old-fashioned way: by earning them, one at a time. We really want to 'grassroots' Muscadine Bloodline," Muncaster says. " It's cool to watch it grow town by town — coming back to a town and more peop... (read more)

She describes her artistic ambitions as a lifelong dare that, "sounded pretty fun" and brought order to the emotional chaos of everyday life. Creating what Billboard called "some of the most refreshingly soulful and haunting indie pop to come out this year", her tracks have received over 7 million streams on Spotify, reaching #7 on the US and #18 on the Global Viral Chart and have been placed on tastemaker playlists including New Music Friday, Indie Pop, Weekend Beats and Weekly Buzz. A John Waters Christmas - City Winery
December 10, 2017 - New York

Like a damaged St. Nick for the Christmas corrupted, John Waters – legendary filmmaker ("Female Trouble", "Hairspray", "Serial Mom"), raconteur and author of bestselling books, Carsick, Role Models and Make Trouble – hitchhikes into town with a bag full of sticks and stones for the devoted and the damned, spreading Yuletide profanity and perverted piety with his critically acclaimed one-man show, "A John Waters Christmas". This rapid-fire "trigger warning" for holiday traditionalists asks the questions, "Is Prancer the only gay reindeer?", "Is it wrong to steal purses from cars in graveyard parking lots on Christmas Eve while mourners leave flowers?", "Has Santa ever been nude?", and, most importantly, "Should you disrupt living crèche celebrations this year in the name of political action?" Miracles really do happen at Yuletide, even if they're false, and Waters prays for a Gaspar Noé Christmas film, and a new sex club that encourages gay men and lesbians to have sex with each other for the very first time. Delving into his love for the annual December warning list of "Unsafe Toys to Give Your Child" and his hatred for email Christmas cards, The Easter Bunny, and any kind of ho... (read more)
