Apb - Mercury Lounge
January 20, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 21 and Over apb formed in 1979 in the small rural town of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Ignoring their remote location the band took inspiration from the punk do it yourself ethic of the burgeoning independent music scene. With a hard-working approach George Cheyne drums, Glenn Roberts guitar and Iain Slater bass and vocals were spotted by Aberdeen's small independent label Oily . In 1981 they were impressed enough by the band's live shows to finance the band's first single Chain Reaction. The band's first single was a two and a half minute punk/pop song with fuzzy distorted guitar and scottish inflected vocals. Already the band was evolving with a sparser and more rhythmical sound.

Jesse Marchant - Mercury Lounge
January 21, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 21 and Over Early one morning in May of 2016, Jesse Marchant came to on a street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, entangled with himself and his bicycle, after a crash on his way to work. He had been attacked by an irate school bus driver who knocked him speeding off his bicycle into a parked car. After flying over the hood and colliding with the back of another, Marchant landed on his head and was knocked out, splayed in the middle of the road. Things had gotten bad and it was time for a change. He quit his part-time position working as a prep cook, a job he had taken to begin to climb his way out from under a mountain of debt, and left for the Adirondacks alone, in a last ditch effort to see if music might materialize and help him emerge from his state of affairs.

Bette Smith - Mercury Lounge
January 22, 2019 - New York

The Supernatural Age Limit: 21 and Over Born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Bette Smith reconnected with her musical roots in Memphis and Mississippi – and fulfilled a promise to her late brother in the process. Recording her debut LP "Jetlagger" in Mississippi brought her to the core of the gospel she sang in church and the soul music she heard growing up on the corner of Nostrand and Fulton in Brooklyn. "Jetlagger" – out now on Big Legal Mess Records, a Fat Possum subsidiary – is sprung from the "south coming to me, grabbing me and pulling me down there. The southern migration came up and got me. My neighbors in Bed-Stuy influenced me," Bette says.

Cold Weather Company - Mercury Lounge
January 23, 2019 - New York

Evangelia Age Limit: 21 and Over "We wanted to open up and find our unique sound. And now we're going to places in songs we never thought we could go." So says Steve Shimchick, one-third of rising musical force Cold Weather Company. On Find Light, the third album from the New Jersey-based trio of Shimchick, Brian Curry and Jeff Petescia, the group expands mightily on their core of two guitars and a piano. Here, they've roped in a number of friends and contemporaries on percussion, bass, cello, violin, trumpet, flute, sax and clarinet, creating a soundtrack that moves far beyond the band's lean sounds of 2015's Somewhere New and 2016's A Folded Letter. "We're really proud of the first two albums, which we recorded ourselves, but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to fill these new songs out with additional instrumentation," says Petescia, one of the group's two guitarists. "We wanted to give each song the sound it deserved." Recording with producer Pat Noon (River City Extension, Brick + Mortar) and Grammy-winning engineer Alan Douches (Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Grizzly Bear), Find Light still features a more minimal, singer-songwriter style on tracks like "Circles" and "Birds o... The Misters - Mercury Lounge
January 23, 2019 - New York

Michelle Age Limit: 18 and Over The Misters aren't your typical guitar group. The band aims to write and perform their own strain of ethereal rock music, which ensures that each song will be equally moving and moveable. Defined by no genre, the group constantly looks to expand their sound by incorporating elements of funk, R&B and jazz to their eclectic array of original music. At its core the band is driven by a raw sexual energy that can be likened to the yacht rockers of the 70s. Playing every note with precision and power, they craft that rare perfect live show that spans the spectrum of human emotion; love, laughter, life, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself.

Half Alive - Mercury Lounge
January 24, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 16 and Over 'still feel.' was never supposed to be a 70s-inspired, electro-halftime-chorus jam complete with a highly-choreographed music video. Nay, the track had very humble beginnings; born from a 50 song project three years ago i had challenged myself to in hopes of improving my skill as a songwriter. Brett and I had back to back studio time around then so we ended up just combining our times and writing many of those 50 songs together; J Tyler would end up joining the posse later and contributing instrumentally to those songs which became the foundation of half•alive. 'still feel.' was song #11 on that 50 song list, although back then it had a different title and belonged to a different genre entirely. The song sat comfortably in an 8×11.5 back leather inch notebook for quite some time before it was ready to see the world. Now look at it; in its prime, and shakin' its booty like its 1979.

Founded by singer song writer Ralph Sirico formally of the popular underground reggae band When I Rise. Sirico started the band in off time during sessions as a publishing songwriter for major label acts with other session musicians he was working with. One of those musicians was trumpet player Dustin Hengle who just got off tour with Willie Nelson and after hearing the demos Sirico was working on jumped on board forming the the trademark horns that define the bands sound. After the bands successful debut record Exit the storm in 2016 Sirico decided to put together a touring band to bring the energy of the recordings to life on stage. If you love bands such as Sublime and Matisyahu you'll absolutely love the sounds and energy of the Marauders! To date the band is made up of Ralph Sirico on vocals, Tony Latrace on drums , Sri Viswanath on bass, Alex Poblet on keys , Takeshi Hiwatari on guitar , Dustin Hengle on Horns, Ron Harter on horns , Bryan Walters on horns and Vocals, and TJ Robinson on horns.

Genital Panic Featuring Tina Schlieske - Mercury Lounge
January 27, 2019 - New York

After hitting menopause and seeing the work of feminist artist VALIE EXPORT, who created a piece called Action Pants: Genital Panic in 1968, Schlieske felt inspired to channel her frustration of the current state of politics and the awareness of misogyny in this country into this latest project. It is menopausal, feminist punk rock.

Polyenso - Mercury Lounge
January 27, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 18 and Over Building off of 2013's cult-acclaimed "One Big Particular Loop," Polyenso — Alex Schultz, Brennan Taulbee, and Denny Agosto — have spent the past three years working extensively with producer Jason Pennock. Evolving their particular flavor of indie-rock to include elements of hip-hop, neo-soul, and experimental electronics, they pull influences from acts such as Flying Lotus, The Roots, Bright Eyes, and Bjork, half-jokingly referring to their medley as "urban indie progressive." Possessing an unrestricted vision for the musical quality in all things, the band operates like sound designers. Pairing synthesizers, pianos and guitars with organic noise and everyday objects like spatulas, wooden bowls and packing peanuts is not far from the norm. Releasing their first new tracks in 2014, "17 New Years" and "Moona Festival" provide listeners with a taste of the depth and scope of the band's ever-expanding sound. A new album ready for a 2016 release, Polyenso serves as a challenge to music as a whole, proving that there is room left for originality in the popular. Carrying forward their intrinsically spiritualistic character, from start to finish, their music captu... (read more)

Donny Mccaslin - Village Vanguard
Through January 27, 2019 - New York

Donny McCaslin (tenor sax) Jason Lindner (piano) Nate Wood (bass) Mark Giuliana (drums) The group has a bedrock relationship with groove, but also a genius for permutation: Mr. Guiliana chops up the beat in deft, destabilizing ways, and Mr. Lindner, favoring a Wurlitzer electric piano with pedal effects, brings welcome grit and woozy atmosphere. Mr. McCaslin seems to have direct access to emotional expression in his playing, as if it were a valve he could open at will. He's exceptionally sure-footed with his phrasing, almost never caught off balance, but he knows how to convey risk or fury through the compressed force of his tone.
