NYC Ducks Launches NYC's First Land and Water Visitor Experience
“NYC Ducks an exciting new tour and is one of many reasons for people to visit New York City and help reach the Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s goal of 50 million visitors by 2012,” said Fertitta. “I am pleased to christen NYC Ducks today as the city’s only land and water visitor experience in time to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s Journey in 2009,” said Tom Lewis, President, Gray Line New York Sightseeing.
After the christening, media rode a Duck as it splashed into the Hudson River, with a wall of water rising almost to the top of the windshield, and then photograph/video a second Duck as it splashed. NYC Ducks is the only half-boat, half-bus amphibious vehicle in the nation with an exciting multi-media theater component. In the NYC Ducks Theater, travelers are rocked and splashed through a duck-umentory, replicating Henry Hudson’s stormy voyage across the Atlantic to the New World. Free Duck Quackers are given to each passenger that climbs aboard.
NYC Ducks also introduced its new mascot, Captain Henry. The NYC Ducks route starts in Times Square, on the east side of Broadway between 47th and 48th Streets and navigates the streets of Manhattan to the waters of the Hudson River. Along the way, entertaining and informative tour guides point out some of New York City’s world-famous sites. At the edge of the Hudson, the Duck will enter the NYC Ducks Theater for an exhilarating multi-media experience, simulating Henry Hudson’s journey, complete with the sights and sounds – the rushing wind and other surprises – of an Atlantic sea voyage.
Then the Duck splashes into the Hudson River for an explorer’s eye view of the New York skyline, something Henry Hudson never saw. After returning to land the Duck travels back to Times Square. The total trip time is 75 minutes. Ducks can accommodate 44 customers or shipmates plus two crewmembers. The new Duck Fleet will be introduced on April 4th and the land and water Duck explorations will operate through October, and may extend through November depending on weather conditions.
Customers can purchase tickets online at www.NYCDucks.com, with an authorized Gray Line New York Sightseeing or NYC Ducks Sales Associate, or call 1-888-8-DUCKS-0 (1-888-838-2570).
