NYC's Top Restaurants Treat Mom Like a Queen for Mother's Day


Mother’s Day 2007 is May 13. On Mom’s special day, treat her to an unforgettable meal at New York’s most unforgettable restaurant, the Russian Tea Room (150 W. 57th St. at 7 Ave.). Executive Chefs Charles Grund Jr. and Jeremy Flowers have put together an exquisite three-course menu of Russian favorites, including: Golden Beet Borscht; smoked salmon; fluke ceviche; braised rabbit perogi; wild mushroom blinchik, pain perdu (brioche, caramelized bananas, toasted almonds, orange rhum syrup); caviar omelette; champagne poached John Dory; scallop and coddled egg (Russian fingerlings, tarragon white wine reduction, black caviar); seared duck breast; and lamb shaslik. Desserts include “Oh! St. Petersburg” (valrhona “manjari,” chocolate dome, cherry cremeux); Fraisier cake (strawberries, almond genoise, vanilla whipped cream); and vanilla bean crème brulee. Seventh Ave.-Broadway), will be hosting “La Festa Della Mamma” this Mother’s Day, with a special $85 tasting menu featuring Italian spring specialties including lamb-filled agnolotti pasta, a roasted Guinea hen served with asparagus and ending with a lavish chocolate extravaganza dessert. Madison Bistrot (238 Madison Ave. btw. 37-38 Sts.) specializes in innovative cuisine & classic French dishes such as cassoulet & bouillabaisse. From 4:30-10pm, they offer their special Mother’s Day menu, featuring a number of items. First courses include: arugula salad with dried tomato, shaved parmesan and old balsamic; crepe, melted Camembert and scallion combination; tilapia terrine with salmon roe and coral dressing; or traditional baked escargot in fine garlic and parsley butter. Entrees include seafood risotto with fava-beans coulis; sauteed monkfish medallions and clams Bourride; braised short ribs Bourguignon in pinot noir reduction; and hanger steak with black pepper sauce, sautéed spinach & croquettes. Desserts include: iced nougat with nuts and Grand Marnier; vanilla & chocolate profiteroles, topped with chocolate sauce; apple tart tatin served with vanilla ice cream; and ginger creme brulee. Send in your favorite family recipe to events@colors-nyc.com to be considered as the featured menu item on the Colors Mother's Day Brunch Menu.
