The parade, scheduled to start at 11am, will progress up lower Broadway from Battery Place to City Hall Park along a route lined with tall office buildings, from which thousands of office workers will throw confetti. The parade culminates with a ceremony at City Hall Plaza. Tens of thousands of fans will line the parade route.
The sidewalks along the Canyon of Heroes have black granite strips embedded within them listing honorees of past ticker-tape parades. Honorees include Admiral George Dewey; Theodore Roosevelt; General John Pershing; golfers Bobby Jones (2 times) and Ben Hogan; aviators including Amelia Earhart (2 times) and Charles Lindbergh; explorer Rear Admiral Richard Byrd (3 times); Olympic athletes including Jesse Owens; World War II leaders Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, Gen. Charles de Gaulle (2 times), Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, Pres. Harry S. Truman, Fleet Admiral William F. Halsey, and Winston Churchill; Howard Hughes; astronauts including John Glenn (2 times), Neil Armstrong, and Virgil Grissom; Pope John Paul II; the New York Yankees, Mets, Rangers, and baseball Giants; and presidents, prime ministers, and royalty from nations around the globe.
