Wsou Presents Soulfly: Ritual Tour – Plus Special Guests - Gramercy Theater
February 11, 2019 - Grammercy Park

SOULFLY Both ancient and modern cultures rely heavily on rituals. From religious proceedings that date back millennia to daily 21st century routines such as checking social media, humanity gravitates towards ritualistic behavior for the appearance of order and a semblance of control over life's chaos. Perhaps more than any other artform, ceremonious behavior defines heavy metal. Thousands of fans worship at the altar of a speaker or congregate in person for the sermon of a live show. Two decades into their storied career, SOULFLY continue to engender near cultish zeal with each subsequent album and tour. In that sense, the group's eleventh full-length, »Ritual« [Nuclear Blast], lives up to the promise of its name with a metallic ceremony of the highest order. The iconic gold-certified quartet—Max Cavalera [vocals, guitar], Marc Rizzo [lead guitar], Zyon Cavalera [drums], and Mike Leon [bass]—cast their word in bludgeoning riffs, thunderous percussion, and menacing growls. The title proves apropos to say the least. "I've always felt that metal is very ritualistic," affirms Max. "I also like one word titles," he smiles. During 2018, Max and Co. began to prepare this latest body ... (read more)

Revolver & Wsou Present Corrosion of Conformity - Gramercy Theater
February 13, 2019 - Grammercy Park

Corrosion of Conformity are reuniting with guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan for UK/European and North American dates. Other than a few surprise appearances, this will be the first time Keenan has toured with the band since 2006. This will also be the first time the "Deliverance" lineup of the group has played together since 2001. C.O.C. recently emerged from hibernation as a trio and released 2012's eponymous album and 2014's "IX" to wide acclaim, but many have been eagerly awaiting the return of Pepper Keenan. The band were originally an influential hardcore punk/heavy metal crossover act before reaching critical success with a new lineup on 1991's "Blind" album. That trajectory continued with wider appeal as Keenan took over as primary vocalist on "Deliverance" (1994) and "Wiseblood" (1996). These two recordings in particular fused the raw energy of the previous albums with some great strides forward in classic rock inspired songwriting and more spacious production and execution, which were often copied but rarely equalled. This juggernaut gained mass and momentum with relentless touring alongside Metallica, Clutch, Eyehategod and many more.

Open Mic W/ Shawn Tallet - Funk 'n Waffles
February 13, 2019 - Syracuse

Ages 18 and Up For some, music is in the blood - a way of life. Their very existence is defined by notes, beats, measures, and tones. Syracuse's own Shawn Tallet can be defined as one of these types, and through his dedication to his craft and meticulous playing, it's easy to see. With a voice that sounds like a late-night, smoky bar, permeated by neon signs, and fiery chops on the electric guitar, Shawn Tallet can captivate audiences and leave them hungry for more. Inspired by the Americana of yesteryear, like Parsons-era Byrds and the Laurel Canyon sound of the early 70s, as well as contemporary writers, such as Ryan Adams and Gary Clark Jr., Tallet is sure to produce an original, honest work and solidify his sound. Tallet has become a fixture in the Central New York music scene - playing with both Barroom Philosophers and Stone Giant, but will continue to forge his own path. The Odysseus EP can be expected in early 2019.

Panda Bear - Pioneer Works
February 14, 2019 - Brooklyn

Panda Bear will perform at Pioneer Works as part of his 2019 Buoys Tour. The sixth album from Animal Collective founding member Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear), Buoys, was co-produced and co-mixed by collaborator Rusty Santos in Lennox's adopted home of Lisbon, Portugal. The album features Lennox's bright, sincere voice along with his beatific approach to melodic structure and vocal phrasing, with miles of space surrounding it, a guitar and a few textured samples fleshing out the dubby sparseness and undercurrent of speaker-limit-pushing sub-bass low-end. Animated by their ongoing interest in contemporary music production techniques, it retains a deep layer of experimentation coursing through its hyper-modern production—a hallmark of Panda Bear releases that will feel intimately familiar to fans of Lennox's decade-plus body of work.
