Bill Charlap Trio - Village Vanguard
September 15, 2019 - New York

As a unit, this must be one of the best piano trios ever, and certainly as instantly recognisable as any of its great predecessors. Charlap’s touch on the keyboard is light, almost stealthy, even when playing full chords, but always firm, clear and beautifully articulated. With the spirited support of bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington (famously unrelated), the total effect is just perfect. As always, Charlap’s playing provides convincing proof that it is still possible to create fresh but pertinent treatments of well-known standard songs.

Now, based in Queens, songwriter offers nervy lo-fi synth pop that buzzes with everyday anxiety. Her new album 2nd is restless, “seeking neither catharsis or sedation but instead exploring the gradations of thrumming anxiety” (Pitchfork).

Many of his most beloved songs, like "The Air That I Breathe" and "When I Need You," have become hits multiple times with various artists, decade after decade. Albert achieved early success as an artist with his song "It Never Rains in Southern California," and he has since built a multi-faceted career as an artist, songwriter and producer in both English-speaking and Latin markets. What sets Albert Hammond apart as a songwriter, earning him induction into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame in 2008, is that Albert doesn't just write hits—he writes classics. He is one of very few songwriters of our time whose songs not only have the mass appeal to make them pop hits, but whose very same songs also have the timelessness and depth that over time tur... The Long Ryders Plus Sarah Borges and Eric "Roscoe" Ambel - Monty Hall
September 18, 2019 - Jersey City

The Long Ryders take their unique take on roots music to Jersey City. They'll be playing songs from Psychedelic Country Soul and old faves The Long Ryders were formed in 1982 by young American musicians influenced by Gram Parsons, C&W, Sir Doug Sahm, and the energetic punk scene found in their hometown of Los Angeles. The Long Ryders were a near-perfect anecdote to formula stadium rock and wimpy synth-pop. The band featured Sid Griffin on guitar, autoharp, and harmonica, Stephen McCarthy on guitar, steel guitar, mandolin, and banjo, Tom Stevens, bass, and Greg Sowders, playing drums and percussion. With a sound reminiscent of the Buffalo Springfield and The Flying Burrito Brothers, but with a harder edge, they anticipated the alternative country music of the 1990s by a decade. It was a warm spring day and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom as tourists enjoyed the nation’s capital. But after sundown downstairs at the Hill Country Barbecue, things were dark and rowdy at Sarah Borges and Eric “Roscoe” Ambel’s joint show. Like a blended family, Ambel tours with Borges and the Broken Singles, playing some of each’s songs and staying together onstage for the night. There had been... (read more)

Her music is an engaging collaboration of traditional Irish music and a progressive social conscience born of a political education in the United States. Courtney has used her music to spread Irish culture and to educate her audience about the struggles of the Irish people. From rock 'n' roll to the ethereal strains of some ancient Celtic bard, Mary can sing anything, and sing it unforgettably.

Popgun Presents: Pond - Warsaw
September 21, 2019 - Brooklyn

Pond What do you call a group of psychedelic songsters all grown up? A group who were often considered the younger sibling, who have come into their own? Artists who just released their best piece of work yet, and musicians who unleashed one of the rowdiest and strongest live touring sets 2014 witnessed? You call them POND. 2014 unveiled the full-formed POND and the Northern Hemisphere barely survived. POND supported the Arctic Monkeys throughout Australia and then jumped on the next plane to Europe. There, POND stunned audiences at Primavera Spain + Portugal, UK festival Field Day, and brought the house down, every night, across their UK/EU headlining tour. Touring with Nick Allbrook (Vocals / Guitar / Astronaut), Jay Watson (Drums / Vocals / Dad Jokes), Joseph Ryan (Guitar / Bass / Vocals / Actual spaceman), Jamie Terry (Keys / Good vibes) and with barely a breather between, POND tore through North America, with sell-out shows ranging from one coast to the next, bouncing between countries like a pogo-stick. Pond's 6th album "Man, It Feels Like Space Again" hit the shelves January 23 (AUS) / January 26 (UK/EU) / January 27 (US) 2015, with more festivals and headline tours bo... (read more)

1964 the Tribute - The Paramount
September 21, 2019 - Huntington

Experience a Beatles' Concert the way it was performed over 50 years ago…The Show: "1964" focuses on the quintessential moment in history, when The Beatles actually played before a LIVE audience. The Beatles toured the world in the early 1960's, but now only a precious few remain who actually saw them LIVE. Who actually felt the "mania" that brought them to world acclaim. Today, all that remains are a few scant memories and some captured images in pictures and on poor quality film and video. "1964" meticulously re-creates the "MAGIC" of those LIVE Beatles' performances with artful precision and unerring accuracy.
