Known for his roles on Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, and extensive tours throughout the US, Canada and Australia, David Liebe Hart is an outsider musician, actor and painter. A true original, he has communicated with extra-terrestrials, owns a large collection of puppets, and is obsessed with trains. While his vast and bizarre catalog of songs about aliens, religion, and failed relationships has yielded cult hits, such as "Salame", "Father & Son" and "Puberty", his recent collaborations with electronic musician Jonah Mociun, AKA Th' Mole, have propelled Liebe Hart into previously unexplored territory. Matthew Silver Artist Statement: My role as a clown, trickster and village idiot is to parody excessive seriousness by playing with taboos, rules, and social norms. Slow Dancer - Mercury Lounge
September 17, 2017 - New York

Jordan Rakei signs to Ninja Tune and unveils new single 'Sorceress'. At only 25, the New Zealand born multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer is a rare talent whose distinct take on soul captures a sonic and emotional awareness many artists spend their entire careers chasing. 'Sorceress', the first single taken from his forthcoming album, sees Jordan edging beyond the peripheries of the genial, often sun-flecked sound his fans have come to know him for. "It's about how the ego can fully control the way you act and perceive life," he says. Jordan's whirlwind rise has been a predominately solo effort. His exceptional musical ability (he writes, sings and plays most of the instrumentation on his records himself) is accompanied by an unrelenting - yet agreeably humble - ambition. His aptitude and knack for songwriting caught the attention of tastemakers following the release of his 2014 EP "Groove Curse". His self-released debut album "Cloak" (2016) lit the blue touch paper, earning him a coveted set at Pitchfork Avant-Garde Block Party 2016 and supports for the likes of Jamie Woon and NAO. Drawing early support from the Soulection crew, he has collaborated with Taku, Tom Misch... (read more)

Dermot Kennedy - Music Hall of Williamsburg
September 17, 2017 - Brooklyn

Life and death. Joy and pain. Love and loss. Dermot Kennedy has always been fascinated by extremes. On his brilliant debut EP, 'Doves & Ravens,' the young Dubliner draws inspiration from all the moments of brightness and darkness this world has to offer, crafting music that's at once soaring and intimate, stripped-back and explosive. Stuttery hip-hop and R&B-influenced percussion underpins his weathered vocals as he combines organic and electronic elements into an arresting, emotional blend that calls to mind the adventurous arrangements of Bon Iver, James Blake, and James Vincent McMorrow. Rich beyond just its production, the EP showcases Kennedy as a writer in possession of a sophistication well beyond his 25 years. He pens lyrics with a poet's eye and a rapper's precision, conjuring vivid imagery and transfixing audiences with the unique rhythm and flow of his soulful delivery. "I think reading poetry and listening to hip hop offer a lot of the same rewards," reflects Kennedy. "The good rappers are so honest, and in my opinion they deserve to be viewed as poets. Regardless of the form, though, I just feed off of anyone who's expressing themselves and sharing their feelings... (read more)

Castle, FINAL SIN, Sanhedrin - Saint Vitus
September 18, 2017 - Brooklyn

CASTLE is pleased to announce the release of their breakout fourth full-length this Summer via Ván Records worldwide. Titled Welcome To The Graveyard, the follow up to 2014's critically-lauded Under Siege was recorded by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth, Eyehategod, Ommadon et al) at Type Foundry Studios in Portland, Oregon this past Winter. Welcome To The Graveyard is set for official unveiling July 15th. Comprised of 8 tracks written over the last year, Welcome To The Graveyard sees CASTLE merge their doom powered riffing with soaring 1970s rock . The album features a new level of confident songwriting and is a creepy-crawl through the wastelands of the band's new L.A. home; a hard-boiled barrage of classic heavy metal riffery tempered with blasts of melodic orchestrated doom. The perfect soundtrack for a Hollywood cult initiation.

Company of Thieves - Gramercy Theater
September 18, 2017 - Grammercy Park

There's a well-known saying that can make a lot of bands uncomfortable while embarking upon their second album: Musicians have their entire lives to write their debut, and a year to complete the follow-up. But in the case of Company of Thieves, the Chicago outfit couldn't wait to record its sophomore full-length, Running From A Gamble. Even though Company of Thieves' famously feverish fanbase is exponentially larger than it was when the band released its first album, the only pressure felt during the making of Running From A Gamble was due to the explosive nature of the songs themselves. And the tremendous results are a testament to how far the band has come in such a short period of time. "We were very eager to get things moving quickly because we were so excited about the new songs," says guitarist Marc Walloch. "There's a sense of urgency in this record that comes through the speakers." "This record needed to come out of me," says frontwoman Genevieve. "It was extremely confrontational in a healthy way, and I think that's why I wasn't too concerned with what people were expecting." The past few years have been busy and fruitful for Company of Thieves, which is now round... (read more)

The Damn Truth - Mercury Lounge
September 18, 2017 - New York

There are times when rock'n'roll is off the leash, off the rails and, at the risk of understatement, off its rocker. For the most part, now is not one of those times. But there are forces at work in defiance of this state of affairs. And that's The Damn Truth. You could say that Montreal's The Damn Truth are keeping rock honest, and nowhere is that more apparent than on the group's newest full-length album, the sophomore Devilish Folk. The follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Dear in the Headlights, Devilish Folk sees the band – Lee-La Baum (vocals/guitar), Tom Shemer (guitars) and Dave Traina (drums) – doubling down on the bruising blues-based, blue-collar rock that distinguished them, and made them something of a musical anomaly, from the moment of inception. In a world where being different doesn't always mean being celebrated, The Damn Truth are fighting the good fight.

Sonder - Music Hall of Williamsburg
September 18, 2017 - Brooklyn

The Sonder sound is uniquely designed by singer Brent Faiyaz and producers Atu & Dpat. The trio's collective taste creates rich, warm, layered, sexy, soulful r&b. Reminiscent of 90¹s & early 2000's song structure and simplicity, Dpat and Atu effortlessly layer live textures while Brent¹s carefully written and delivered vocals compliment this power of three. By definition, Sonder is the realization that each random passerby lives a life as vivid and complex as your own and with that, our unique experiences all flow into one another. This is exactly what Sonder's Into project alludes a cohesive and flowing body of work, a story. Preludes to Into were told through a short mixes series released mysteriously in winter 2016. "Into is a reflection of shit that my ego won't allow me to speak on in everyday conversation from relationships with women and family to living too fast" - Brent Faiyaz.

The Besnard Lakes, Everett Bird - Baby's All Right
September 19, 2017 - New York

The story of The Besnard Lakes begins at Besnard Lake: a spectacular yet secluded water feature in rural Saskatchewan which the Montreal group's husband and wife core, Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, visit each summer for inspiration and escape. This year the couple's campsite was surrounded for a worrying few days by forest flames, a literal ring of fire which informed the devil-may-care spirit of their exuberant fifth album. "Besnard Lake is usually the place where we get the germination of ideas," explains Jace. "We set up a small recording rig in the trailer we have up there .This time there were also helicopters with giant water tanks flying over us while we were fishing on the lake!" Armed with demos and memories from their trip, the pair returned to the city and entered Breakglass Studios. Co-founded by Lasek a decade ago, this popular recording facility has long been a hub for Montreal's fertile, collaborative and proudly DIY music community. Having met and fallen in love in Vancouver, where Jace was a photography-trained art student and Olga a bass-slinging star on the underground rock circuit, the pair relocated at the turn of the millennium. Vancouver had gotten too expe... (read more)

The War on Drugs - Terminal 5
September 19, 2017 - New York

A poetic storyteller and portraitist of people adrift and clawing their way forward in a depressed American landscape." - NY Times "Craig Finn has created a universe as big as America, a stage that stretches from Minneapolis to Ybor City, from the bars of Chicago to behind bars in Memphis" - Pitchfork Perhaps best known as the singer of The Hold Steady, Craig Finn is a Minnesota-bred singer/songwriter and guitarist based in New York City. Finn's highly descriptive lyrical style has a focus on narrative, crafting whole worlds for the people in his songs to exist within. In 1994, he helped form Lifter Puller, refining his craft over the course of their three albums before the band called it quits in 2000. At this point, Finn relocated to New York and reunited with Lifter Puller bassist Tad Kubler to form The Hold Steady in 2003. While the band's whiskey-fueled bar rock sound was a departure from the angular, synth-filled sounds of Lifter Puller, Finn's lyrically dense storytelling style remained intact, making The Hold Steady the thinking man's bar band. After five critically acclaimed albums with the band, 2012 saw Finn release his first solo album Clear Heart Full Eyes. In ... (read more)

Cameron Avery - Mercury Lounge
September 19, 2017 - New York

Be it with a woman or an existence, infatuation and sentimentality seem to rule the world of West Australian artist Cameron Avery. Sonically his music reeks of classic familiarity, paired with lyrics laden with romantic debris, so it's no surprise he has made Los Angeles and New York his creative playground over the past two years. Cameron cut his bread in the Perth local music community and has been heavily involved in the relentless touring exploits of POND and Tame impala for the past 5 years. Not unlike his prolific Perth cohorts he has also managed to release an EP, 'Clever Leaver,' and a full-length album 'What Would Christ Do??' in a project of his own brainchild called 'The Growl.'

Sam Reider is an accordionist, pianist and composer based in Brooklyn, NY. His upcoming record, Too Hot To Sleep, is music that gets stuck in your head and keeps you up at night. The Human Hands are a collective of young, virtuoso acoustic musicians based in New York City who have developed a cultish following and a reputation for mind-bending sets of high-energy, improvised music. Featuring Sam Reider on accordion/keys, Eddie Barbash on saxophone, Roy Williams on guitar, Phoebe Hunt on fiddle, Dominick Leslie on mandolin, and Dave Speranza on bass.

The Horrors - Rough Trade NYC
Through September 19, 2017 - Brooklyn

The Horrors will release their fifth album 'V' this fall—their first new release in three years. The new album is out September 22 on Wolftone/Caroline and shows the group at the peak of their powers, exhibiting a freedom and sense of exploration that feels truly liberating. Recorded in London with producer Paul Epworth (fka twigs, Lorde, Rihanna, Adele), 'V' is the sound of the band making the most expansive and progressive music of their careers. They also recently supported Depeche Mode on tour and will announce select U.S. dates soon. See current UK tour dates below. "When we started," explains bassist Rhys Webb, "we had a very clear idea of what we wanted to do, which was to make as furious a noise as possible, a fast and violent racket. But even though we started with this punky garage sound there was always this real spirit of wanting to experiment and explore." The album artwork comes from talented VFX artist and director Erik Ferguson, who is known for his abstract and intriguing creative vision.

Wovenhand, Subrosa - Saint Vitus
September 20, 2017 - Brooklyn

The music of David Eugene Edwards' Wovenhand is utterly unique, dizzying those who encounter it, with turnings and lashings of shadow and light. In almost every documented encounter with the music of Wovenhand, what is described is an experience so visceral and so universally disorienting, that one has to take note. From the first measures of music, the taste of desert earth is on the lips; neck-hairs snap to attention as strange and unfamiliar sounds whisper just underneath the surge of guitar and the rumble of bass; clouds loom on the horizon promising either the balm of rain or the threat of judgment — it could be either. The smell of horses' breath, like ash, carries with it messages from another place, a place that is at once very very far away and impossibly close... The music of Wovenhand is its own iconography, its own world, its own universe. SubRosa is an experimental sludge-doom band from Salt Lake City, a city plagued by the tension of opposites, bleeding with churning counterculture, and a fertile breeding ground for modern pioneers.

Elijah Matthew Moses is a drummer, djembe player, and electronic music producer. Their music has qualities of both night and day, going from the intensity of a full heavy metal drum set juxtaposed with the banjo-like shamisen, to the sensual plucks of the koto combined with the kinetic energy of the West African djembe.

The World of Captain Beefheart with Nona Hendryx & Gary Lucas - Joe's Pub at The Public Theater
September 20, 2017 - Greenwich Village

Legendary Funk Rock Diva Nona Hendryx and acclaimed avant-guitarist Gary Lucas perform a tribute to visionary composer, bandleader, poet and painter Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart, who single-handedly changed the face of music, beginning with a series of ground-breaking albums with his Magic Band from 1967's "Safe as Milk" to 1969's hallucinatory "Trout Mask Replica" through 1982' "Ice Cream for Crow." Beefheart's music combines Delta blues, free-jazz and proto-punk rock with surreal imagery, ecological concerns, and the highest and airiest of wit, a sound which proved highly influential on the first wave of punk avatars (including John Lydon, Joe Strummer, and David Byrne) and many other seminal artists (David Lynch, Ed Ruscha, Julian Schnabel, and Matt Groening). On stage and on record Van Vliet explored musical and lyrical territory never before charted in the confines of a traditional electric band line-up before devoting himself full-time to painting, garnering a loyal worldwide fan base in the process. "The only place you can get ribs at 3 o'clock in the morning, Roland, is in the Bible"—Don Van Vliet to jazzman Rahsaan Roland Kirk on searching for a post-gig s... (read more)

Logan Mize - Mercury Lounge
September 20, 2017 - New York

Logan Mize's life story has more twists and turns than the rural Kansas backroads he grew up traveling Trying to get all of Logan Mize' s backstory straight is a little bit like herding cats. But it makes for some great songwriting material. It involves stories about him living in his Suburban, Justin Timberlake being a fan, his great uncle discovering Buck Owens back in Bakersfield, selling out 2,000-seat venues with no record label behind him, driving a dump truck, wooing his now wife with sushi and a bucket of chicken wings, filming a commercial with Hayden Panettiere, getting a smile and a nod from Merle Haggard during a performance and being named the tourism ambassador by the Governor of the state of Kansas. All true stories. And there are more where those came from. There was that show he booked before any of his records came out. He and his band sold out a 600-person capacity club. "We tried out all the songs," Mize remembers. "They sold out of beer three times that night and they didn' t pay us much of anything because I didn't even know you had contracts for that sort of thing. That was my crash course in touring and playing clubs. All my old friends, teac... (read more)

September 20, 2017 - Brooklyn

Crawl Space is the debut album from Tei Shi and documents her transformation from the cautious and curious new kid on the block to a confident, self-possessed artist. Blending elements of Pop, R&B, and Soul with their distinct aggressive funk core, Turkuaz sounds like the musical love child of Sly & the Family Stone and Talking Heads. Sinkane music -- every note of it -- comes straight out of a generosity of spirit. Never has that spirit been on more vivid display than on the uplifting new album Life & Livin' It. Rodriguez - Tarrytown Music Hall
September 21, 2017 - Tarrytown

Part of the Franzoso Contracting Rock Series A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation Rodriguez, the legendary singer-songwriter who was the subject of the 2012 Oscar award-winning documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, began performing in bars and clubs around the city of Detroit in the 1960s. It was there that he recorded two studio albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971. These compositions went unnoticed in the U.S. and Rodriguez eventually turned his efforts elsewhere, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Wayne State University, running for political office and working construction and factory jobs to support his family. In the mid-1970s, his music gained airplay in Australia and New Zealand and he toured the area finding limited success as an overseas performer. Rodriguez was unaware that he had reached legendary folk-rock super stardom status in South Africa, where mistaken rumors circulated that he had perished. As it turns out, South African anti-Apartheid activists and musicians alike were inspired by his counterculture lyrics. In the late 1990s, South African fans finally sought him out, leading to the unanticipated renaissance of h... (read more)

X – 40th Anniversary Tour - Stage 48
September 21, 2017 - New York

X were the quintessential L.A. punk rockers before they grew into a world-class rock & roll band and live band; however, enthusiasm for their unique, intelligent and humorous work never quite reached critical mass. Formed in 1977 after songwriter and bassist John Doe (b. Feb. 24, 1956) met (and later married) Exene Cervenka (b. Feb. 1, 1956) at a Venice poetry workshop, with rockabilly veteran Billy Zoom (b. Feb. 20, 194?) on guitar and D.J. Bonebrake (b. Dec. 8, 1955) on drums, the band garnered an immediate following. "Discovered" by ex-Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, he took the band into the studio for the recording of Los Angeles in 1980. It was curious, at a time when punks were supposed to hate hippies, that X's merging with an ex-Door was not only tolerated, but earned them stature as California's preeminent punk band when the record earned across-the-board raves. 1981 saw the release of the similarly punked-up Wild Gift, while their 1982 album, Under the Big Black Sun, began what would be a long career in merging hard rock, country and folk into their fiery mix. The band successfully began to mix in their populist politics with an eye toward matters of the heart. As ... (read more)

The way you hear her tell it, Alison Wonderland has wanted to name her first album Run since before she knew how to play an instrument. Welcome to the contradictory world of Alison Wonderland; an Australian artist who has written an album during her time in Los Angeles, a public personality who privately obsesses over her music with near-?maniacal intensity; an electronic producer who is equally proud of her pop songs and her festival bangers. The Cribs - Music Hall of Williamsburg
September 21, 2017 - Brooklyn

The Cribs and High Road Touring are happy to announce that the cult UK band will be touring throughout the USA and Canada this fall, including an appearance at Chicago's Riot Fest. Known for their fiercely DIY approach to recording and touring at a time when indie music in the UK was going through a huge commercial boom, The Cribs always stood out from their contemporaries as an altogether more uncompromising prospect. Releasing their first two LP's 'The Cribs' (2004), and 'The New Fellas' (2005) on UK independent label Wichita Recordings, the band quickly built a loyal and devoted fan-base which lead to Q Magazine describing them as "The biggest cult band in the UK". After the breakthrough success of their third LP "Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever" (Warner Bros., 2007), The Cribs were joined by legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr as a full-time member of the group for their fourth full-length "Ignore The Ignorant" (Warner Bros, 2009). Following Marr's departure in 2011, The Cribs returned with their critical high-point "In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull" in 2012, and then their latest album "For All My Sisters", produced by Ric Ocasek (Weezer, Bad Brains) which was rel... Matthew Sweet - Tarrytown Music Hall
September 22, 2017 - Tarrytown

A Music Hall/Music Without Borders Co-presentation Matthew Sweet tours in support of his new album Forever Tomorrow, which will be released on June 16th. He emerged in 1991 as the leading figure of the American power pop revival. Like his British counterparts Teenage Fanclub, Sweet adhered to traditional songcraft, yet subverted the form by adding noisy post-punk guitar and flourishes of country-rock, resulting in an amalgam of the Beatles, Big Star, R.E.M., and Neil Young. Recorded with guitarists Richard Lloyd and Robert Quine, Sweet's third album, Girlfriend (1991), became a word-of-mouth critical and commercial hit over the course of 1992, with its title track reaching the Top Five on the Modern Rock charts. For the next five years, as alternative rock was the dominant commercial force in rock & roll, Sweet became a very popular concert attraction and solidified his reputation as the premiere alternative pop singer/songwriter. His next two records, Altered Beast (1993) and 100% Fun (1995) were both critically acclaimed and successful albums, reaching platinum status and making many year-end best-of lists.

Will Hoge - Highline Ballroom
September 22, 2017 - New York

AMEX LogoWill Hoge on "Growing Up Around Here," the opening track off of his tenth studio album, Small Town Dreams. "I'm kinda proud of growing up around here." It's been a whole lot of miles, indeed: miles on the road, driving the bus himself from venue to venue since the nineties; miles to and from Nashville writing rooms, where he's spent countless hours penning songs – some for him, some for others; miles exploring lands outside of his native Franklin, Tennessee, chasing the spirits of his musical heroes. Roads meet, roads split, roads led to home. This is the album that follows them all, every twist and turn in Hoge's American journey – a journey that's positioned him as one of our keenest, most honest modern storytellers, telling both his tale and ours.

Whiskey Shivers - Rough Trade NYC
September 22, 2017 - Brooklyn

Born in a woodpile in the twilight months of ought nine, we came from all corners of the US looking to do one thing: to knock the dust off roots music. Upright bass, fiddle, washboard, banjo and guitar; a traditional arrangement for some not so traditional music. "Imagine taking a hardcore heavy metal band like Pantera and cramming all that energy into the body of a 23-year-old bluegrass guitarist. That's Billy Strings. He tears up the stage during his set, grimacing, growling, head-banging and tearing the holy sh*t out of a set of super-charged Americana. Kid can pick! DAMN can he pick! It's acoustic music with a punk edge and a lot of youthful enthusiasm and, oh man, that PICKING! Strings covers a wide variety of classic tunes and songs in his show, from a slow-burning cover of 'Wild Bill Jones' to a raw cover of 'Cocaine Blues' or picking delights like 'Red Haired Boy' and 'Soldier's Joy.' But the standout track is the opening song, 'Dust in a Baggie,' a cleverly written mountain song about meth that manages to take a very current and destructive issue and translate it into the bluegrass vernacular. It's a tour-de-force, written by Strings himself, and is the moment you ... (read more)

Mates Of State - Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre
September 22, 2017 - New York

How does a band keep evolving and moving forward after 15 years? First up, embrace the modern age and the way that people are consuming music these days. "I don't like it, but the long play album format is probably dead," says Mates of State singer/drummer Jason Hammel. "Now we just want the hits. Don't bother me with filler; get me your best songs straightaway." Rather than lamenting this shift in listening preferences, Hammel and his bandmate Kori Gardner are taking a very KISS-like approach with their new music: you wanted the best, you got the best. The pair's new self-produced EP 'You're Going To Make It,' then, is nothing but choice cuts; five anthemic and emotionally-rich songs that will quickly take up residence in your mental jukebox; five anthemic songs that wriggle into your every waking hour like the earworms they are. This new batch of tunes is Mates of State in its purest form. The razor sharp harmonies, shimmering new wave synth melodies, an internal warmth that can only come from a couple that has been musically and romantically involved for nearly two decades, and lyrics that speak to both personal and universal concerns.

Cold Beat - Mercury Lounge
September 22, 2017 - New York

Cold Beat, aka Hannah Lew, returns with the announcement of her third album, Chaos By Invitation, out April 7th via her own Crime on the Moon label. As compared with previous releases, Chaos By Invitation began in Lew's home, alone, with additional tracking done later by Phil Manley (Trans Am) at El Studio and Mikey Young (Total Control) – only to return to Lew's home for completion over the course of many months. As a result, the offering is much more personal and direct than Into The Air, which was more of a band effort. Collages from Lew's home environment make up many of the textures of Chaos By, woven in to create an intimate atmosphere, a sort of chaos by necessity and design. The album also features performances by her friends Kyle King, Alex Shen, Jackson Blumgart, and Mikey Young.

Gentleman Brawlers - Club Groove NYC
September 22, 2017 - New York

Gentleman Brawlers, a Brooklyn 6-Piece, are psychedelic soul revivalists known for their spooky, stylized tunes drenched in analog tape echo and spring reverb. Drawing critical acclaim in the New York and London Music Press, Brooklyn's influential magazine, The Deli, listed them among their top 10 emerging New York bands, while Veteran BBC music writer Tom Robinson tipped them as a band showing great promise, calling the 'Brawlers "a virtuoso live band, grooving together like a beautifully engineered machine." Guilty Pleasures Cabaret's sultry charm and feminine energy brings refreshing talent and artistry to the cabaret theater experience. They were founded in 2014 by six friends in New York City who wanted to produce a show that highlighted both their performing and creative talents. Inspired by music, dance, and costumes that fulfilled their guilty performing pleasures, the show was born - thus earning their namesake "Guilty Pleasures Cabaret". The ladies debuted their show in Manhattan on the Upper West Side at a neighborhood bar, and after nine months they moved downtown where they were selling out monthly shows at the renowned Duplex Cabaret Theater. The ladies have since made the Duplex their performing home. With a speak-easy feel, a hint of the roaring twenties, and a sprinkle of the swinging sixties - the show remains modern and sexy. The Slants Jafe and the Royals the Sofas - Under Minerva Gallery and Event Space
September 22, 2017 - Brooklyn

Portland's The Slants are the first and only all-Asian American dance rock band in the world. They offer up catchy dance beats, strong hooks, and a bombastic live show that is "not to be missed" (The Westword). The Willamette Week says "While the band may well be best experienced live, Slants releases always promise a few blistering, note-perfect singles." The music is the perfect combination of 80's driven synth pop with hard-hitting indie, floor-filling beats which fans affectionately dub as "Chinatown Dance Rock." They've been featured on Conan O'Brien's Team Coco, BBC, NPR, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and over 1,500 radio stations, tv shows, magazines, and websites across 85 countries. They are perhaps best known for defeating the government in a high-profile trademark battle that has gone to the Supreme Court of the United States Whether rocking music halls, anime conventions, maximum-security prisons, colleges, or army bases, it's clear that The Slants' infectious brand of "so damn good" music will leave you wanting more" (MRU Magazine).

D.D. Dumbo's output stretches back to 2013, when he released his self-recorded debut EP, Tropical Oceans. Led by the spooky strut of the title-track, the lo-fi four song-set of blues- laced, deconstructed pop, announced Perry as an exciting newcomer fluent in a language all his own. People took notice. Performing solo with a 12-string electric guitar, two drums and a bunch of effect pedals, D.D Dumbo made an impression at the 2013 SXSW Music conference. In the following 12 months he was invited to support the likes of Warpaint, Tune-Yards, St Vincent, Jungle, Iron & Wine, and do live sessions for NPR, Daytrotter and BBC Radio 1.

Matthew Sweet - Landmark on Main Street

DESCRIPTION 1 Matthew Sweet emerged in 1991 as the leading figure of the American power pop revival, with a sound that was an amalgam of the Beatles, Big Star, R.E.M., and Neil Young. His next two records, Altered Beast (1993) and 100% Fun (1995) also reached platinum status. Sweet wrote and recorded (and sang and performed guitar on) a Journey parody song for an episode of The Simpsons in which Homer forms an ill-fated garage band. Cap'n Jazz - Brooklyn Steel
September 23, 2017 - New York

Short-lived but highly influential, Cap'n Jazz helped transform genres from a deeply underground punk subgenre into a more widely accepted subset of indie rock. Cap'n Jazz's main contribution was stylistic — they helped shift emo's always-elusive musical focus from post-hardcore prog-punk to an arty but more accessible punk-pop. Their discography was as scant as it was rare, but that very obscurity helped build their underground legend through word of mouth, until a double-CD retrospective was finally issued several years after their breakup. By that time, most of the members had moved on to other, better-known bands, most notably Joan of Arc, American Football Owen and the Promise Ring, which helped spread Cap'n Jazz's influence far beyond their original audience. The first incarnation of Cap'n Jazz was formed in Chicago circa 1989, when brothers Tim (guitar, vocals) and Mike Kinsella (drums) teamed up with bassist Sam Zurick and guitarist Victor Villareal; all were still in school at the time. The band went through several name changes and added guitarist Davey von Bohlen, but took a few years to get serious about pursuing music. Eventually, they earned a cult following around C... Monogold - Rough Trade NYC
September 23, 2017 - Brooklyn

Monogold's melodies soar like an eagle on top of a rollercoaster on top of Mount Kilimanjaro. Why would there be a rollercoaster on Mount Kilimanjaro? You see things that are there and say, "Why?" But I see things that are not and say, "Why not?" Or, something like that. Anyway, this lovely Brooklyn band creates wonderfully crafted lush pop that glides towards dreamy and transcendent territories. Singer Keith Kelly uses his floating falsetto to propel the trio's songs up, up, and up some more. Prepare to be inspired, and have your little paws rocked like no wolf before. Drab Majesty - Sunnyvale
September 23, 2017 - New York

Drab Majesty is an inter-dimensional platform aimed at channeling aural and visual messages founded by a human being from Los Angeles in 2013. The human communes directly with it's spiritual muse/assumed alter-ego Deb Demure to demonstrate the power in relinquishing ownership to a divine design, thereby handing inspiration over to the spirit world - essentially serving as a contractor in business with the Collective Consciousness. Relying on those principles, Drab Majesty, from its inception, set out to achieve no specific style, yet over the span of a European tour, several US tours, an LP entitled "Careless" (released and reissued 3 times on DAIS Records), 2 cassette EP's, and a 7-inch on (Weyrd Son/Brussels), Deb has honed in on a pointed aesthetic. No Joy are a Canadian shoegaze band, formed in late 2009 by Jasamine White-Gluz and Laura Lloyd. White-Gluz was living in Los Angeles while Lloyd was living in Montreal. They began collaborating via email, which eventually led to White-Gluz's return to Montreal and their first show (with Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü) on December 15, 2009. The band continued to play locally, including a show with then-up-and-coming indie band Best Coast... (read more)

Hiccup The Shacks God Tiny - Mercury Lounge
September 23, 2017 - New York

The Hiccup origin story is a rather unlikely one for a breakneck paced, harmony-laden indie band. Dual vocalists Hallie Bulleit (formerly of The Unlovables) and Alex Clute first met when they began playing together in the house band on a late-night television program. The Chris Gethard Show – a club house for suburban dorks, outcasts, punks and nerds – is peppered with brief bursts of kinetic pop-punk songs by Clute and Bulleit's TV band, The LLC, about such topics as building birdhouses, having weird body parts, and eating sandwiches (to name but a few). They are micro-pop perfection that are, at most, 30 seconds long and as soon as they're performed live on the show, they disappear forever as quickly as they appeared, never to be performed or heard again. Alex and Hallie were bonded by their common love of, and capacity for creating memorable pop hooks." Eventually after playing together and not really having the ability to be too precious or protective over the songs we were writing for the show due to time constraints," Clute says. "We thought Hey, maybe this can translate into something similar but with more of a lasting impression."

Paul Cauthen - Mercury Lounge
September 23, 2017 - New York

Paul Cauthen remembers sitting alone in an Austin house after a weekend-long bender. A life making music seemed to be slipping away. Wide awake with nothing to lose, he fell on his hands and knees right there, bowed his head, and threw down a divine gauntlet. "I dared Him," Cauthen says, recalling his desperate challenge to God. "I said, 'Use me. I'll be a rag doll. Just put me out there, let's go. I dare you.'" Most people don't plead in the form of a dare. That blend of vulnerability and brash confidence is part of what makes Cauthen and his music -- which often hinges on the same paradox -- so compelling. Whether it was by heavenly intervention or sheer force of will, Cauthen emerged with My Gospel (Lightning Rod Records), his mesmerizing full-length solo debut. Produced by Beau Bedford, the record is both an artistic and personal triumph. My Gospel captures a young artist in full possession of a raw virtuosity that must sometimes feel like a burden: If your singing takes listeners on white-knuckle rides and you write like a hard-luck Transcendentalist poet who abandoned the East Coast for the desert, you'd better do both. Anything else just wouldn't feel like living. "I d... (read more)

September 23, 2017 - Brooklyn

A former member of Mexico's La Catrina, Rana Santacruz's music has been called "Mexican Bluegrass" or "Irish Mariachi" with a dose of rock and alternative. The acoustic instrumentation includes cajón, upright bass, accordion, guitar, banjo, jarana, violin and trumpet. Through September 23, 2017 - New York

Sinjin Hawke From Resident Advisor: Barcelona based Sinjin Hawke - who has recently been making liquid metal waves in a series of collaborations with the likes of Mike Q, L-Vis 1990 and Just Blaze, has been strutting his production acumen across a dizzying array of styles this year. Whether they be celestial remixes for ghetto house legends, wildly textured club machinations or space-age grime/Memphis amalgamations, his orchestral arrangements come across as monolithic as thousand-year-old statues carved out of granite cliffs. Whether he's performing on his own or teaming up with fellow Fractal Fantasy co-founder, Zora Jones, Sinjin Hawke has the golden touch that brings technicolor to the most monochrome of clubs, creating the kind of atmosphere that brings all us a bit closer together. Zora Jones From FACT MAG: Austria-born, Barcelona-based producer, DJ and animator Zora Jones has turned heads in the last few years with a slew of vivid, idiosyncratic bootlegs, mixes, original tracks and visuals. Although she's been active on the club scene since the early 2010s, Jones' debut "proper" release only emerged in 2015. 100 Ladies was released on Fractal Fantasy, a label Jones ru... (read more)

Matthew Sweet - SOPAC
September 24, 2017 - South Orange

After spending the '80s as a jangle Pop guitarist with Oh-OK and Lloyd Cole, as well as a solo artist, Matthew Sweet emerged in 1991 as the leading figure of the American Power Pop revival. For the next five years, as Alternative Rock was the dominant commercial force in Rock & Roll, Sweet became a very popular concert attraction and solidified his reputation as the premiere Alternative Pop Singer-Songwriter.

Pixies - Garcia's at The Capitol Theatre
September 24, 2017 - New York

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, a Boston quartet with the innocuous name of Pixies cranked out four albums and an EP that proved infinitely more influential than their sales implied. Featuring surf-punk riffs, frontman Black Francis' otherworldly screams, Kim Deal's sturdy bass lines and quiet verses that exploded into ear-shredding choruses, the band's sound served as a blueprint for Nineties popular rock bands, including Nirvana. Black Francis, born Charles Michael Kitteridge Thompson IV, spent his childhood moving between L.A. and Boston suburbs, picking up music at used record stores and hearing rock played on the jukebox at his father's bar. He met guitarist Joey Santiago at the University of Massachusetts and the pair started writing songs together. Thompson dropped out of college his junior year and moved to Puerto Rico, where he gave himself an ultimatum: He would either go to New Zealand to see Halley's Comet or form a band. In 1986 Thompson and Santiago moved to Boston to seriously pursue music. The Filipino Santiago picked the name Pixies out of the dictionary and they took out a newspaper ad for a bassist interested in Hüsker Dü and Peter, Paul and Mary. Ohio n... (read more)

A double jolt of adrenaline and sugar to inspire the most helicoptered of tots to play hooky and go shred an ax. For those about to love School of Rock: We salute you." Hoping to educate us once again, Andrew Lloyd-Webber returns to Broadway with a brand-new show! Adapted from the 2003 Jack Black movie of the same name, School of Rock features bumbling lead character Dewey Finn, played by Eric Petersen (Shrek The Musical), the hilarious slacker with rock stardom on his mind. Not since 1971 has Andrew Lloyd-Webber launched a show on Broadway before London's West End! This new production, which mixes songs from the movie with brand new songs by the iconic composer and lyricist Glenn Slater, is a rockin' spectacular! Oh, and the book comes from Julian Fellowes, the writer of a "relatively unknown" TV show called Downtown Abbey. Nope, we've never heard of it either....
