Everything Turned to Color - Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3
January 12, 2018 - New York

"It's like She and Him have found a seriousness that is often missing in most pop music." - Audio Fuzz Everything Turned To Color is the unlikely but serendipitous musical partnership between veteran songwriters Bryan and Kyle Weber and Neha Jiwrajka. It was in the lobby of their Brooklyn apartment building that Bryan first met Neha, the new neighbor that apparently didn't mind his kids running, screaming, and climbing all over the lobby furniture. The chance encounter quickly turned into regular song workshopping sessions, which inevitably included Bryan's longtime songwriting partner Kyle on lead guitar. In June of 2016, the group entered ECR Music Studios in NYC to track its debut album with esteemed musician/producer and founder of #IRespectMusic, Blake Morgan. The eleven song LP, entitled "Life Imagined", was released on June 23, 2017 in tandem with two sold-out sets at Rockwood Music Hall's stage 3, and followed by extensive touring on both coasts. Says Mr. Morgan: "It's rare that I'm hit this powerfully with new music–truly goose-bump inducing–and as a result, I'm not only a fan but completely sure that great things lie ahead for this band."

The artists who cite Buckley as a major influence are a who's who of comedy, music - actors and writers from Jack Kerouac & Bob Dylan to Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and Johnny Depp. LORD BUCKLEY was a hip 'aristocrat' ennobling the audience rather than himself and translating the great stories and histories of the world in to a be-bop infused language he called 'the hipsemantic'. San Fermin - Brooklyn Bowl
Through January 12, 2018 - Brooklyn

San Fermin's third studio album, 'Belong,' marks a shift in songwriting perspective for bandleader Ellis Ludwig-Leone. "In the past I'd usually write through characters from books or movies, as a way to try to distance myself from what I was writing about," says the Brooklyn-based artist. "As I've become more confident as a songwriter, I decided that I could drop some of the artifice and write something more direct." In bringing a more personal slant to his music, Ludwig-Leone found himself confronting such matters as disconnection, displacement, and -- perhaps most significantly -- everyday anxiety. "Anxiety is something I've dealt with since I was a kid, but on this album I talked about it more explicitly than I ever had before," he points out. Produced by Ludwig-Leone and brought to life by his fellow performers -- lead vocalists Charlene Kaye and Allen Tate, trumpet player John Brandon, saxophonist Stephen Chen, violinist Rebekah Durham, drummer Michael Hanf, and guitarists Tyler McDiarmid and Aki Ishiguro -- 'Belong' unfolds in warm, intoxicating textures that both contrast and intensify that sense of unrest. The album's hypnotic sound is embodied in "No Promises," a shimme... (read more)

January 14, 2018 - Brooklyn

The dance world way too often privileges the new, and not many dance artists write albums as good as In A Dream, the third fulllength album by The Juan MacLean, this far into their career. The Juan MacLean have weathered electroclash, discopunk, electro-disco, techno, house, deep house, and whatever we can call the sound of today. They never feel totally in step with the moment, but somehow always feel right and necessary. Put differently: there's always something exciting to say about the music, regardless of the release date. Let's start with Nancy Whang. Nancy's voice has always been a kind of secret weapon on The Juan MacLean records, but this album is her triumph. Just take a look above at the album art where she's front and center. This is the Nancy Show you get all sides of Nancy on this record, a wide range of expression. These are all love songs, but emotions run wild. And you can't pull this off without Nancy she's not living in these songs, she's leading them. Like every Juan record, this one quotes freely from house and techno and disco. Dead drums and vintage synthesizers are abundant. This is a DFA record, after all. But early on in their career, The Juan MacL... (read more)

Iac Commissions: Eighth Blackbird - Irish Arts Center
Through January 31, 2018 - New York

Four-time Grammy-winning music ensemble Eighth Blackbird collaborates with longtime IAC artists composer/fiddler Dan Trueman, vocalist Iarla Ó Lionáird (The Gloaming, Ghost Trio, The Hunger), and Pulitzer-Prize winning poet Paul Muldoon, on Olagón. This 90-minute song cycle brings the centuries-old legend of the Táin Bó Cúailnge into the 21st century, exposing a martini-guzzling, pill-popping Queen Medhbh set against her lovelorn King Ailill, among other lovers.

IAC Commissions: Deirdre Kinahan, Michael Brunnock, and Gerry Leonard - Irish Arts Center

Playwright Deirdre Kinahan (Wild Sky, Halcyon Days, BOGBOY) will collaborate with New York City-based musicians Michael Brunnock and Gerry Leonard on Ettie, an ambitious new theatre production reimagining the life of Ettie Steinberg, Ireland's only known Irish-Jewish citizen to have been murdered in the Holocaust.

The Poet will be Televised- Poetry Showcase - Silvana

or three years running, The REC (Royaltie Entertainment Company) has hosted the best poetry jam session in New York City! "The Poet WILL Be Televised!" will hold a special event on every second Wednesday at Silvana! Hosted by hip-hop artist Baxter P Wordsworth, "The Poet WILL Be Televised" pays homage to Gil Scott Heron, iconic for the world-renowned poem "The Revolution Will Not be Televised." We allow poets, spoken word and hip hop artists, and neo-soul singers to come together with a live band to improvise their written word in a new, fresh way. If you would like to perform during the open mic, please remember, TRACKS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THIS EVENT! The live band will be happy to assist you in any musical stylings you may desire.
