Walter Wolfman Washington and the Roadmasters - DROM
May 31, 2019 - New York

Walter "Wolfman" Washington has been a mainstay on the New Orleans music scene. He cut his teeth backing up some of the best singers and performers in New Orleans history before putting together his long time band The Roadmasters who have been burning down and burning up local and national stages since their first gigs in the 1980s. His guitar style combines both rhythm and blues, blues, New Orleans funk, and modern jazz into a way of playing that is uniquely his. His singing is emotional and heartfelt. His guitar work is intricate, intimate, and full. There is a little Bobby Blue Bland, a little Kenny Burrell, a little George Benson, a little church, and a lot of New Orleans charm and experience in a Walter Wolfman Washington performance. They are known for doing their own soulful originals and then tackling some great unsung covers such as Johnny Guitar Watson's "You Can Stay But That Noise Got To Go," Otis Redding's "Nobody's Fault But Mine," and Bill Withers' "Use Me." And in this day and age of musicians imitating the past or trying to recreate it, The Wolfman stands out as a musician steeped in the history but completely contemporary. Few musical acts, if any, do what he does... (read more)

Hellgrammites - Marquis Theatre
May 31, 2019 - New York

Hellgrammites, Extreme Turbo Smash, Kenaima, Limbwrecker With more than fifteen years of experience playing together, the all-family Denver based band Hellgrammites have fine-tuned their art. Labeling Hellgrammites into a genre (let alone two or three) is extremely difficult, they have been called "genre gymnasts," and for good reason. They're influenced by a plethora of styles, which all poke their heads through the music tastefully. Hellgrammites casually and effortlessly dance between punk, hardcore, indie/progressive, jazz, alternative/rock, with tinges of hip-hop as well. They embody the ferocity of Every Time I Die, the rawness of The Chariot, and the groove-orientation of Glassjaw / Deftones.

Gov Ball After Dark: Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Warsaw
May 31, 2019 - Brooklyn

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever It's rare that a band's debut album sounds as confident and self-assured as Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever's Hope Downs. To say that the first full-length from the Melbourne quintet improves on their buzz-building EPs from the last few years would be an understatement: the promise those early releases hinted at has become fully realized here, with ten songs of urgent and passionate guitar pop that elicit warm memories of bands past, from the Go-Betweens' jangle to the charmingly lo-fi trappings of New Zealand's Flying Nun label. But don't mistake Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever for nostalgists: Hope Downs is the sound of a band finding its own collective voice. The hard-hitting debut is a testament to Rolling Blackouts C.F.’s tight-knit and hard-working bonafides: prior to forming the band in 2013, singers/guitarists Fran Keaney, Tom Russo, and Joe White had played together in various garage bands, dating back to high school. "Over the years, we built up our own sound and style, guitar pop songs with bits of punk and country” says Keaney. “Then when we started this band, with Joe Russo [Tom’s brother] on bass, Marcel [Tussie, Joe White's then-... In Be More Chill, achieving the "perfect life" is possible thanks to mysterious new technology — but it comes at a cost that's not as easy to swallow. Rolling Stone calls it a "wow of a musical" with an "irresistible score." Thrillingly exciting and comically subversive, this new musical takes on the competing voices in our heads, and ultimately proves there's never been a better time in history to be yourself. Based on the novel by Ned Vizzini, Be More Chill brings the cool factor to New York's Lyceum Theatre.

White Reaper - Amityville Music Hall
Through June 21, 2019 - Amityville

The World's Best American Band. The bold statement from Louisville's White Reaper is not only the title of their new album but also the band's credo. "Because we are the best," says guitarist/vocalist Tony Esposito. "Just like Muhammad Ali was the greatest, you gotta say it out loud for people to believe it." And with that mentality, the band hit the studio with close friend and producer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Young Widows) and made a good ol' fashioned in-your-face rock 'n' roll record. "We didn't make this record or start this band because we wanted to come across in a single, certain way," says Esposito. "We just make records that we'd want to hear. We started doing this because it's fun as hell, just as much now as it was when we were 14."

Alan has won two GRAMMY® Awards as an arranger and has been nominated seven other times, including best piano solo and best trio performance.
