Adam Ezra Group at The Loft - City Winery
July 14, 2019 - New York

Tickets will be $20 Day of Show It's difficult to impart the roots-steeped, road-trippin' essence of the Adam Ezra Group into a single word, but frontman Adam Ezra nonetheless keeps one in mind as something of a mantra: community. Community is epitomized by a belief that has long doubled as a mission statement for the group: namely, that making music together is itself a form of grassroots organizing, capable of nothing less than changing the world. For their most recent release, Hurricane Wind (2017), the AEG fanbase turned the full power of its collective hurricane wind outward, and shared the music for free with over 5000 people over the course of two weeks. Such a groundswell of activity wouldn't have been possible even a few years ago; "Hurricane Wind," to AEG, represents both a celebration and reaffirmation of how remarkably that community has grown. A tireless touring outfit, the Adam Ezra Group (AEG) is constantly on the road, often devoting their time to local charities and always going out of their way to connect with fans. They are creating a powerful, inclusive community around AEG shows that is beginning to be compared to a social-movement as much as a traditional ... (read more)

Honduras the Wants, Blood, Cindy Cane - Baby's All Right
July 15, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Friends since childhood, Patrick Phillips (vocals/guitar) and Tyson Moore (lead guitar) found each other again in a Bushwick basement where they began writing much of what would become Honduras' early material. Inspired by late 70's punk, but mixing in aspects of garage and indie that followed, Honduras played Brooklyn's DIY venue scene tirelessly and garnered a reputation for amazing live performances, with comparisons to bands like Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks. After bringing in Josh Wehle to play drums the band added a new bass player in Paul Lizarraga (the Denzels) to round out the band's signature polished edge. Their more recent writing has included elements of krautrock and psych to their already energetic tracks for an intellectually developed and interesting sound. While picking up additional attention from serious tastemakers like Rolling Stone, Noisey, Impose, and Nylon along the way, the group has shared stages like Bowery Ballroom and Music Hall of Williamsburg with notable acts like Drowners and the Kaiser Chiefs over the past year. On stage the formula continues, where four good friends exhibit a savvy devil-may-care tightness. Their engaging ... (read more)

The Chats - Brooklyn Bowl
July 17, 2019 - Brooklyn

The Chats are three dropkick drongos from the Sunshine Coast of Australia, also the home of the Crocodile Hunter (RIP). Forming in 2016 in their mates bong shed, the boys quickly came up with a set of catchy pub punk anthems. 'Smoko' came first, and mayhem followed. Now reaching over 5.5 million views, the tune has lead to a whirlwind touring schedule of 2018. First, a mammoth tour of over 40 dates with drunken uncles and godfaters of grunge, the Cosmic Psychos, followed not long after with a personal request by Josh Homme to open for the Queens of the Stoneage across Australia. According to Homme, he was sent the bands video from Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, and watched it a ton of times with Iggy Pop. Life is strange. The Chats announced their debut tour in the motherland of the UK in October, which much to the bands shock, all sold out in a day. Agents scrambled to move all shows to larger venues, seeing the boys playing sold shows in infamous rooms such as the Electric Ballroom in London, Academy 2 in Manchester and Institute 2 in Birmingham. Not bad for a couple of 19 year olds who've never been outside of Australia before.

Moon (Jar) Landing - Pioneer Works
July 21, 2019 - Brooklyn

Nicholas Oh is a Korean American artist currently working in Brooklyn. Oh focuses on creating objects and installations that deal with race and identity. By creating and destroying clay replicas of Confederate statues, the artist explores changes in the statue's meaning through time and history. While many believe these statues were built to commemorate fallen soldiers during the Civil War, he looks deeper into their role in oppression and terror. The artist's ideas start by looking back on his own history and background (Oh was born in Wisconsin, but spent his early childhood in Korea). Nicholas Oh is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, in 2018, after graduating with a BA from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, 2015. Oh's Residency is supported in part by a partnership with Rhode Island School of Design.

A Look Back: 50 Years After Stonewall - Fort Gansevoort
Through August 10, 2019 -

A Look Back: 50 Years After Stonewall unites the work of queer artists living and producing in and around New York City beginning around the time of the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 and leading into the 1980s. This is only a portion of the story, an incomplete history, most especially given that the Gay Liberation movement and its coinciding contemporary art market had not placed transgender voices nor people of color at the forefront of the conversation. The exhibition includes both documentation of the Gay Liberation movement and a look back at the work made by LGBTQ+ artists during this time. Central to the work included are the subjects of protest, revolt, celebration, and love. Kate Millett's sculpture, American Flag Goes to Pot (1970) provides a blunt protest to government authority, while Joan E. Biren's photograph's document the tenderness of love between two women. The work made during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, beginning in 1981, becomes entangled in death and remembrance, an epidemic defining this decade most especially in the New York City queer community and resulting in a tremendous amount of loss. Peter Hujar, Paul Thek and David Wojnarowicz's work all refle... (read more)
