NYC is home to the Knicks, the Yankees, the Jets, the Rangers, the Mets, the Nets, and the Islanders, so you can bet that there are sporting events happening in the city no matter the season. (There's also soccer, minor league baseball, marathons, and all kinds of college teams.) Gearing up to run the TCS New York City Marathon or another fall marathon? Get in some long-distance practice with these runs, featuring built-in fuel, pace-setters, and training partners. In the start corals, participants will divide into groups based on pace. There will be signs in the corals starting at 7:00-per-mile and going up each 30 seconds—please stage yourself accordingly. If you choose to run with a pace group, members of the NYRR Pace Team—you'll recognize their blue and white striped tanks—will carry signs that correspond with the marathon paces and finish times. Check back later for information on the pace groups that will be available on event day. All pacers will cover 20 miles, but individuals may shorten their distance to suit their training needs. Runners may switch between pace groups as they wish. Runners faster than 7:00 per mile may begin before the 7:00 group; however, no pace leader will be provided. The official course will close at 10:00 a.m. Water, PowerGels, and Gatorade Endurance Formula will be available on the 102nd Street Cross Drive throughout the run. In June and July, live racing is scheduled for every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights with 7:10 PM first post. Thursdays return in August, and note that there is no live racing Monday and Tuesday, July 3rd and 4th. As always, evening simulcasting accompanies all night time programs. Sunday matinees return this weekend (June 18th, first post 12:30 PM), with the first four races of the "French Trot" variety (10 horse fields at the mile-and-a-quarter-distance). The remaining Sundays scheduled are (July 2nd, 16th, 23rd & 30th) with first post time to be announced. The ‘New York, New York Double’ returns this Sunday, tentatively including Belmont’s 3rd race (post time 2:32 PM) and Yonkers’ 7th race (post time 3 PM). Twelve races are also on the docket for Saturday night, led the highly-competitive Open Handicap Pace (8th race) for the gentlemen pacers, when a pair of Levy Series winners—Bit of a Legend N, with "Air" Jordan Stratton, driving from post 5, and Keystone Velocity, handled by Dan Dube alongside from post 6 —will collide.

What is kayak polo? It's a mix of basketball, water polo, and kayaking and a whole lot of fun! EVENT INFORMATION We've got the equipment (kayaks, vests, helmets, paddles), you bring the body, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship (shorts/sandals, too). Your level of experience doesn't matter. We are limited to 15 participants per game, so reserve your spot for the game at 11 am. We'll put you in a team and give you a vest number on a first-come first-served basis. Dedicated players and volunteers, though, will end up being teachers to others. We focus on individual attention and kayak mentoring, and offer the best free kayak learning experience you can get in NYC. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before game time to be donned with vest, helmet, paddle, and kayak. New York, July 12 — The memorabilia collection of fabled Brooklyn Dodgers third baseman and Oakland, California favorite son Harry Arthur “Cookie” Lavagetto is on the Steiner Auctions online auction block, and will include such vintage collectibles as a baseball signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lavagetto’s game-used baseball glove from the 1940’s, a Dodgers team autographed baseball that includes signatures of such immortals as Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese, and Lavagetto’s 1948 Oakland Acorns Pacific Coast League Championship ring. His son Ernie has put the memorabilia up for bids in the Mid-Summer Classic Auction, which continues through July 29th. Visit to bid and for more details. Lovagetto’s Silver Lifetime Pass presented by Major League Baseball, an autographed Honus Wagner photograph, and a baseball signed by legendary manager Casey Stengel are also up for grabs.
