ZviDance: On The Road presented in association with DanceNOW's 2019 Dancemopolitan Featured Artist Series - Joe's Pub
Through April 27, 2019 - New York

On the Road, inspired by Jack Kerouac's novel of the same title, is a multimedia dance piece that contemplates the upheaval of the 1960's and that generation's startling notions of social rebellion. The road trip is a metaphor of an improvised life and having no ties to anything. Author Kerouac was trying to hold onto his youth and fight the passage of time. Virtuosic in form and versatile in style, Kerouac's On the Road entwines the thrills of freedom, the sounds of jazz, and the perplexity of youthful American voices discovering their closeted and social selves. Gotheiner's On the Road is a total celebration of individuality. Performed against the backdrop of Joshua Higgason's hypnotic video designs, On the Road is set to Jukka Rintamki's distinctive score. The video by Higgason was shot during a two-week road trip through the rust belt of America, in the spring of 2016, with four of ZviDance's dancers improvising movement along the way. Choreography by Zvi Gotheiner in collaboration with the dancers Music by Jukka Rintamki Video by Josh Higgason Performed by ZviDance "Muscular and driving, without being unnecessarily frenetic or fussy. Justin Sayre returns with their camp-horror-soap-opera, Ravenswood Manor! We return to the small New England town of Ravenswood, where frightening and unusual things are happening with more and more frequency. The movie-star, Bettina Doors, has returned to her childhood home, under mysterious circumstances and a veil. There's a werewolf on the loose and rumblings in the seedy homosexual underground, all while the country gets ready to elect a new president in the summer of 1979. Who knows what will happen in this small American town on the brink of disaster. The first installment covered the first six episodes of the show, and now we return with the final six of season one. All will be revealed and recapped (don't worry) with Jeff Hiller, Jenn Harris, Rob Maitner, Nicole Spiezio, and Aaron Jackon. Directed by Ellie Heyman Music by Henry Koperski Saturday night – Episodes 7 thru 9 Sunday night – Episodes 10 thru 12

Mean Girls - August-Wilson Theatre
Through June 05, 2019 - New York

Mean Girl Broadway Musical If you didn’t see Mean Girl back in the 2000s, then you probably didn’t have that great of a childhood. Most people might call it a chick flick, but in our opinion, it is one of the greatest teen movies of our generation. The people were in awe over our little mathematician. Oh, and it’s not just our opinion, the movie was showered with more awards then we can count. But, the story just keeps getting better. After her incredible movie, Tina Fey didn’t just stop there. She has far greater and extravagant plans for the Mean Girls Franchise. You'd like to know if Tina Fey can write a musical. The oh-so-not-surprising answer is... yes! – Peter Marks, The Washington Post We sometimes feel that our childhood is coming to life with musicals. First, it was Bring it On, then Heathers with several others in development. But, the musical for Mean Girls is already here. The Mean Girls Musical is a masterpiece from the great Fey. Frozen - Broadway Musical - St. James Theatre
Through June 05, 2019 - New York

The spectacular Disney film that captivated audiences around the world has finally made it to Broadway! Following the success of the 2013 animated movie, Frozen the Musical expands on the story of two sisters, giving more time to the characters we’ve come to love. With a book by Jennifer Lee, and music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the show has kept many members of the creative team from the film, ensuring everything on stage is faithful to the original story. Instead of being a direct copy of the film, what Frozen the Musical does is transform these animated characters into something real and tangible. It really takes the time to dig deep into the characters’ motivations, allowing their relationships to develop further. Delving deeper into Elsa and Anna’s past, the extra time given to the young sisters makes their love for each other clear from the start. Young Elsa, portrayed by Brooklyn Nelson and Ayla Schwartz, is the perfect tragic heroine. Her reaction to hurting her sister, and her fear of hurting anyone else, tugs at the heartstrings of every audience member. Both actors convey the role of big sister brilliantly, tapping into the respons... (read more)
