Celia and Sean said, "This is a different type of collaboration for both of us, offering new musical challenges. Sean approaches popular songs mainly as an improviser, Celia through the lens of storytelling. Over time, the lyrics of the songs we chose began to guide both of us to unexpected musical places. We hope the audience will enjoy the discoveries we have made as much as we have." Sean Gough is best known for his more than decade-long collaboration with veteran bass player Gene Perla, with whom he has appeared across the United States and in Europe, including at Smalls and Zinc Bar. With vocalist Allan Harris, drummer/cajon player Shirazette Tinnin, pianist Arcoiris Sandoval, and bassist Nimrod Speaks. "…the warmth of Tony Bennett, the bite and rhythmic sense of Sinatra, and the sly elegance of Nat King Cole." – The Miami Herald "Although he's best known for his buttery tributes to Nat "King" Cole and Billy Eckstine, [Allan] Harris ranks among the most dexterous singers around, and he proves fully up to the challenge" of "navigating the tricky, rapid-fire, street-smart wordplay of vocalese—an art form [Eddie] Jefferson is widely credited with creating." – JazzTimes The award-winning Allan Harris is a Brooklyn-born, Harlem-raised vocalist, guitarist, and composer with a powerful baritone voice and a huge stylistic range. In his return to Dizzy's Club, he will pay tribute to two geniuses of jazz vocals: vocalese pioneer Eddie Jefferson and crooner Nat "King" Cole. Regarding musical influences, "It all goes back to disco," Jesse says, and speaks of his father's love for the genre as a driver behind an "attic full of vinyl" at home which he has been able to draw upon. Jesse also often uses disco as starting points for his productions, and samples regularly off tracks from the genre. The young producer has also cited DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, and Robert Armani as influences. Ultimately, Jesse's productions are marked by a framework of uptempo percussion, shaped by dark distorted bass lines that add dimension and groove.

Cherubs Low Dose - Saint Vitus Bar
July 13, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Formed in 1992 by Ed Hall, expatriate drummer Kevin Whitley (vocals/guitar), Owen McMahon (bass), and Brent Prager (drums), the Cherubs emerged on the Austin, TX, LSD punk scene with a jackhammer of nightmarish, rhythm-driven song structures and plenty of Butthole Surfers whimsy and terror to keep things more than interesting. Later that year, King Koffey of the Butthole Surfers released the band's first album, Icing, on his Trance Syndicate label. Icing proved a strange concoction of repetitive, hypnotic beats, frosted with Kevin Whitley's high-pitched howl. In 1993, the band issued the Carjack Fairy single, each of the thousand pressed sleeved in a different piece of wallpaper samples; an interesting concept, and one certainly not alien to the musical climate of Austin, TX. By the time the band's magnum opus, Heroin Man, was issued in 1994, the Cherubs had called it quits, leaving a hell of an album in its wake, one of the most distorted, red-lined, oddball noise rock records ever made. Two years later, Trance released Short of Popular, a collection of singles, odds and ends, and outtakes from previous sessions. American noise rock band from Philadelph... (read more)

Call them a virtuoso supergroup if you must, but their musical high-wire act - employing random amounts of rock, jazz, pop, metal, and even traditional country - is informed by the spirit of a true band, one whose improvisational soul allows for anything to happen onstage at any moment…including the occasional wink and nod at the audience.

What is supposed to be a fun and carefree evening evolves into a drunken circus of attempted infidelity, nonsense, and weird religion. This all takes place under the watchful gaze of a young girl who only shows herself to one person, while he steadily and hilariously loses his grip on reality in the company of his oblivious friends.
