O.A.R. - Madison Square Garden
August 15, 2009 - Manhattan

Following two previous sold-out shows at "The World's Most Famous Arena," O.A.R. returns to Madison Square Garden on Saturday, August 15 with their This Town Tour.

Bachata Roja Legends Concert - P.S. 161 field, adjacent to the Harlem Stage Gatehouse

Harlem Stage presents "The Bachata Roja Legends" -- a free outdoor music and dance concert featuring traditional and contemporary Dominican bachata music, played by some of the genre's legendary artists, in honor of Dominican Restoration Day. Straight from the Dominican Republic, the performers include special guest Puerto Plata with Ramón Cabrera (a.k.a. "El Chivo Sin Ley" or "The Lawless Goat"), Ramón Cordero, Leonardo Paniagua, and guitar giant Edilio Paredes -- artists whose popularity grew from the 1960s-1980s. Local Latin music group Zon Del Barrio also performs, a variety of items will be raffled off, and DJ David Medina will spin a variety of Latin musical styles.

Brave combo with Corn Mo and .357 Lover - The Bell House

Brave Combo turns the big 3-0 in 2009 and they are coming to The Bell House for a one night only Denton, Texas inspired music extravaganza on August 17. Special guest Corn Mo and .357 Lover will open the show at 8:15 p.m. and Brave Combo will hit the stage at 9:30 p.m. In typical Brave Combo fashion the multi-talented quintet has marked this milestone anniversary by exploring "The Exotic Rocking Life" (Dentone Records), recorded a CD of live music with the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra and criss-crossed the USA to perform at clubs, festivals and special events. Paste Magazine, in an article about the music scene in Denton, Texas dubbed the group "The Grand Pooh-bah" of the bands coming out of "little d." Mostly Mozart Festival - Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts

The 43rd season of the Mostly Mozart Festival includes concerts, pre-concert recitals, late-night performances, films, and lectures. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree will conduct ten concerts with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and the music of Mozart will be featured in 17 programs this summer, along with 14 by his beloved contemporary, Haydn, whose death 200 years ago will be highlighted during the Festival. The four-week Mostly Mozart Festival will also offer five premieres by composers John Adams and Alberto Grau; choreographer Mark Morris, and film-maker Bruno Monsaingeon. The Festival will feature debuts by nine artists—conductor Robin Ticciati makes his highly-anticipated US debut; pianist Claire-Marie Le Guay and conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin make their NY debuts; pianist Yevgeny Sudbin makes his NY orchestral debut; and pianists Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Nicholas Angelich and Stefan Vladar, mezzo-soprano Karen Cargill, and acclaimed clarinetist Michael Collins make their Mostly Mozart debuts. The Festival will unfold at five venues on the Lincoln Center campus, including a return to the newly transformed and highly acclaimed Alice Tully Hall. The Collage Aesthetic of Louis Armstrong: 'In the Cause of Happiness' - Jazz at Lincoln Center

This exhibition features large-scale images of collages created by Armstrong from clips of photographs, news stories, postcards, letters, telegrams and other materials that Armstrong artfully affixed to the boxes of his vast private collection of audio tapes. Reconfiguring the Body in American Art, 1820–2009 - National Academy of Design Museum and School of Fine Arts

An exhibition that examines the critical role the human figure has played in the Nation's art for the past 189 years. Transcending chronological, stylistic, and generational boundaries the exhibition will present 160 works drawn from the National Academy's important and wide ranging collection of American art, as well as an intriguing selection of works by contemporary artists who are carrying on the figurative tradition in new and adventurous ways.
