LYFE JENNINGS - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
August 23, 2012 - New York

Only a month after being released from jail on a arson charge, Lyfe Jennings was on-stage at the famous Apollo. He was booed when he walked on-stage with an acoustic guitar, but when the Apollo audience heard his gritty falsetto and lyrical songwriting, they were swayed -- swayed to the tune of five amateur-night victories in a row. Lyfe figures he sold a thousand copies of his four-song demo CD during his Apollo "residency." That, along with a ton of calls from promoters and record label execs on his answering machine back in Ohio, influenced Lyfe to move to New York City and pursue a major-label deal. Columbia had the right offer and released his debut, Lyfe 268-192 (his inmate number), in August of 2004. A year after its original release, the album was reissued with a new version of "Hypothetically" featuring American Idol winner Fantasia added as a bonus track. The more hip-hop-oriented follow-up, The Phoenix, arrived in 2006 with Three 6 Mafia and Young Buck making guest appearances. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide

WILL DOWNING - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
August 24, 2012 - New York

Women love Will Downing. And men love the women who love Will Downing. In his over two-decade recording career, the Brooklyn native has carved for himself a solid career as one of the leading purveyors of unapologetic, unabashed romantic music. And while this path has not translated to crossover success - or even to broad urban radio success - it has gained him a solid musical legacy and a rabidly loyal following of, well ... women. Downing had his first national exposure as a popular backing vocalist in the '80s before signing with Island Records. He recorded two modestly successful albums and had a minor hit with a cover of "A Love Supreme" before releasing his breakout 1991 album A Dream Fulfilled, which featured his superb baritone deftly handling such diverse songs as War's "The World is a Ghetto," Paul Davis's "I Go Crazy," and Angela Bofill's "I Try." Both "I Try" and the album hit the Urban Top 25, and critical acclaim for the disc abounded.

The group is best known for its fiercely original, bass-and-beatbox-driven funk and pop style of music and has headlined major a cappella festivals such as the East Coast Summit, SoJam, and AcappellaStock.

Mostly Mozart Festival 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of Louis Langree as Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director. He will lead nine concerts with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall, including a FREE preview on July 28. The two thematic highlights of the Festival this year will be a multi-genre exploration on the influence of birdsong on composers and visual artists, complemented by an extensive survey of the music of Schubert.

RAHEEM DeVAUGHN - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
August 25, 2012 - New York

The son of renowned jazz musician Abdul Wadud, R&B singer-songwriter Raheem DeVaughn grew up in Maryland and cut his teeth performing in clubs throughout Washington, D.C. After several indie releases, which he sold on the streets and at his shows, the crooner signed with Jive Records and dropped The Love Experience, his slept-on 2005 debut. DeVaughn broke through commercially with 2008's Love Behind the Melody, which earned him two Grammy nods, two BET J Awards for Best Male R&B Artist and Album of the Year, as well as a prime slot on tour with Jill Scott. The disc featured the smash hits "Woman" and "Customer."

The Rob Me Blind Tour Jay Brannan - Highline Ballroom
August 25, 2012 -

Everything about singer-songwriter Jay Brannan's young career is improbable. Defying legions of critics both personal and professional, he has managed to build a shockingly dedicated following in a very non-traditional way. Urged to stick to society's conventions during his Southern upbringing, Brannan has become a lightning rod for castaways by simply being himself: a neurotic and inspiring mess. A New Yorker by way of Texas, California, and several stops in between, he first made headlines as an actor in John Cameron Mitchell's 2006 indie film sensation Shortbus, offering an international platform for his first full-length musical release Goddamned (2008), which made its debut as the No. 25 overall Top Album on iTunes.
