The Big Apple is home to two NFL teams—although technically they are in New Jersey even though they are based close to the city—and they are both worth paying a visit. The New York Giants are the oldest American football franchise in the city, having started out in 1925. They play their home games at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. They have appeared in the playoffs 32 times and won the Super Bowl four times with the last coming in 2011.

The other team, known as Gang Green, are the New York Jets. They also play at MetLife Stadium and have a less illustrious past than their neighbors. They have made 14 playoff appearances and have won the Super Bowl (III) just once, in 1968.

NBA Teams to Watch in New York

There are two NBA sides to watch in New York. The New York Knicks are the go-to team for basketball and they play at the world-famous Madison Square Garden. Right now they are not playing too well, currently at +50000 to win the Championship at NBA Betting on bet365. This should not put you off, however, as they are a team steeped in history winning two championships and eight conference titles since 1946.

The Brooklyn Nets play in the Atlantic Division and call Barclays Center home. They have won two championships and have star man Kyrie Irving on their roster—definitely worth a watch.

NHL Teams to Watch in New York

Ice hockey has two representatives in the Big Apple and both are worth visiting for different reasons. The New York Rangers are one of the founding members of the NHL, known as the ‘original six’ era. They play at Madison Square Garden and have won the Stanley Cup four times—Wayne Gretzky famously ended his career as a Ranger in 1999.

The New York Islanders are the other ice hockey franchise in the city and they currently play in two arenas. Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale on Long Island and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. They have won the Stanley Cup four times, including three consecutive titles in the 1980s.

MLB Teams to Watch in New York

The most historic sport in the US has two teams in New York; the world-famous Yankees and the recently rejuvenated Mets.

The Yankees play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and are one of the most successful teams in MLB history. They have won the World Series 27 times and have a star-studded roster. They have a deep history with famous names such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio having graced their roster.

The Mets play at Citi Field in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park i. They have only won the World Series twice but are still a huge name in New York sporting life.

MLS Teams to Watch in New York

There is only one MLS team actually based in the Big Apple and they are the new kids on the block. New York City FC share Yankee Stadium with the Yankees and were established in 2013. Spanish World Cup winner David Villa was their first captain. The New York Red Bulls 'share' the city with their rivals but are actually based in New Jersey, similar to the Giants and Jets.

So there you have it, plenty of options await the most avid sports fan right in the heart of the city that never sleeps.
