Walking in a Winter ONEderland at One World Observatory

To see all of New York, with some seasonal accents, get to the top of One World Trade Center, home of One World Observatory and the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. For a limited time, the observatory has been transformed into Winter ONEderland: A Holiday Experience Above It All. The experience (which includes visits from Santa himself) will open to the public on Monday, November 26, continuing through January 7.

Holiday specials start at the beginning of your journey, with the multimedia experience One World of Wonders, hosted by virtual mascot Ollie the Owl who flies past the wonders of the world, ancient and modern. The underground winter grotto Glacier Cave leads to a Snowy SkyPod Journey. It's rare that you want an elevator ride to last a little longer, but the SkyPods at One World immerse riders in a trip across time, as New York City rises up in animation all around them. This is the fastest elevator ride in the hemisphere, and during Winter ONEderland, it's accompanied by the seasonal sight of falling snow.

Up at the top you'll be greeted by one of the world's great views. It’s all here, from the rivers to the harbor, from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building. Special Magical Frosted Windows will present guests with an interactive shimmering world. There's a great photo op available at the Giant Snow Globe. And another great photo op comes on select days when Santa himself comes down partway from the clouds. Audiences with the man in red come with a photo, certain to be a keepsake.

The Gallery at One World Observatory has some great gift ideas, including special commemorative seasonal and holiday merchandise. Among your options: knit caps, ornaments, accessories, and the jaunty scarves worn by staff members.

There are also a slew of seasonal dining options. One Mix and One Dine, the hemisphere's tallest bar and restaurant respectively, will offer daily specials and holiday cocktails. Menu items for hearty appetites include turkey roulade with a pecan and cranberry stuffing and dry-aged New York strip steak. Cocktail specials include the 5th Avenue (cinnamon-infused whiskey and Irish cream); the Winter in Central Park (vanilla-infused vodka with peppermint and white chocolate liqueur); and the ONEderland Eggnog, mixing premium cognac, a special liqueur blend, and cinnamon.
