Outlets in New York City
New York’s only outlet mall is located on Staten Island. Take the free ferry (say hi to Lady Liberty on the way!), and visit the retail/dining complex at Empire Outlets. The shopping center contains Gap Factory Store, Brooks Brothers Factory Store, Nordstrom Rack, and Levi’s Outlet, among others. This 340,000-square-foot complex boasts not only great shopping, but also stunning views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. Eat Shake Shack and Mamoun’s falafel, among other dining options at Empire Outlets.
2. Saks Off Fifth
Find designer clothes, accessories, cosmetics, and shoes for a discount in Midtown East and Brooklyn’s Industry City near Sunset Park. As the Saks website promises, “We drop prices, you drop names.” In fact, you can shop an assortment of more than 800 designer brands for women, men, kids, and home goods at up to 70 percent off every day.
3. Nordstrom Rack
Shop high-end brands for women, men, and kids at two Nordstrom Rack locations in Manhattan. There’s the original on 14th Street at Union Square and the newer location at Herald Square. (See also the Brooklyn location at Fulton Mall, listed below.) Featured brands include Theory, T by Alexander Wang, Citizens of Humanity jeans, and Joie. There's also a Nordstrom Rack at Empire Outlets!
4. Bloomingdale’s Outlet
Just across Central Park from the flagship store, Bloomingdale’s Outlet is the iconic department store’s Upper West Side counterpart. You can find goods for women, men, and kids, plus cosmetics, shoes, and accessories and carry your Big Brown Bag down Broadway after your trip.
5. Fulton Mall
Brooklynites flock downtown for Fulton Mall, an outdoor shopping center featuring discount shopping among a large collection of regular-priced stores. Last Call Neiman Marcus provides luxury goods for much less, while Ann Taylor Factory Store, Gap Factory Store, and Banana Republic Factory Store slash prices on your favorite brand names. Don’t miss the DeKalb Market Hall, providing dozens of local food vendors like Katz’s Delicatessen and Foragers Market.
