Lords of Acid - Gramercy Theater
March 12, 2019 - Grammercy Park

From his first single, "I Sit On Acid", released in 1988, to the present, Belgium's Praga Khan remains one of the most innovative acid house musicians in circulation. Thanks to extensive experimentation with drugs, Crowley-ian sex magic, and esoteric paths of self-deprivation and mutilation known only to himself, this orgiastic orchestrator created the LORDS OF ACID to further encapsulate the seductive messages and raw sex of his ever-evolving musical vision. From the raw carnality of their 1991 release "Lust", to the electro-thrash of 2012's "Deep Chills" Lords of Acid has re-defined the pure pleasures of drugs, hedonism, and deviant sex for nearly three decades! Now, despite numerous lineup changes, world tours, over 2.5 million album sales, and every possible point of crisis and conflict a band can face, Lords of Acid is returning to the unsuspecting again, this time with a new crew of deviants, dilettantes, and sonically transmitted diseases. Praise The Lords, Misbehave!

Carla Bley / Steve Swallow / Andy Sheppard - Jazz Standard
Through March 20, 2019 - New York

Here is simply one of the most anticipated club engagements of this New York jazz season. Any public performance by pianist/composer Carla Bley is today a rare and precious occurrence, even more so in an atmosphere as intimate as that of Jazz Standard. She is joined by veteran bassist and longtime collaborator Steve Swallow; and by British saxophonist and composer Andy Sheppard, whose Surrounded by Sea is his third and latest CD for the ECM label. "Even the jazz hardcore sometimes concede that unfettered improvisation can deliver a torrent of notes that could have used the odd edit. The distilled, yet playful, music of Carla Bley's trio is the perfect antidote? With Steve Swallow on bass guitar and Andy Sheppard on saxes, they seemed to be playing the absolute essence of a busier and more convoluted jazz, which they had decided to keep to themselves." (John Fordham, The Guardian, 7.19.2016) Carla Bley ? piano Steve Swallow ? bass Andy Sheppard ? tenor & soprano saxophone
