15-02-2019 12:00:00 15-02-2019 12:00:00 America/New_York The Horszowski Trio | 9:00 PM The Horszowski Trio makes its 92Y debut with two touchstones of the trio repertoire and a rare performance of a modern American work. Robert Schumann's hyper-romantic piano trio retains its ability to leave audiences breathless even over 150 years after its composition, and The Horszowski Trio brings into sharp relief Schumann's progression from gloom to ineffable joy before entering a very different sound-world: that of the great American composer Charles Wuorinen, whose piano trio is based on small, complex rhythmic gestures thrown between instruments. The anxious energy of Schumann's trio can be found in Wuorinen's; moments of tender writing for the strings are punctuated by jolts from the piano. Finally, the trio performs Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 — a work by turns plangent and lyrical before finding its restive conclusion in a final movement inspired by Schubert's second piano trio. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=334948 92Y 92Y
