11-02-2018 12:00:00 11-02-2018 12:00:00 America/New_York Shakespeare — & What Is Love? What love really is and how to have it, occupies men and women everywhere. And there is the deep question: what is the relation between what one woman or man hopes for in love, and what the world, with all its confusion and turmoil, most needs? For people to find out, the place to be is at the Sunday, February 11th, Aesthetic Realism Theatre Company production of “Shakespeare—& What Is Love?” It is a dramatic presentation of Eli Siegel’s great lecture on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew—with vivid scenes from this wild comedy. The performance is from 2:30 to 4 PM. About what Katherina, the “shrew,” represents, Mr. Siegel explained: “Katherina is the energy in woman looking for a means of showing itself. Because she hasn't found it yet, she is in an ill mood.... She represents the desire in ourselves to meet an energy that we respect....Once we can see the world as beautiful, we shall be in the very fortunate position of not wanting to use our energy in the field of anger in such a manner that we are displeased with ourselves.” This production shows that Katherina is hoping for what all people hope for: to meet someone who stands for the fact that the world deserves her respect. Petruchio meets that hope—in the most surprising and often hilarious ways—and that is why she comes to love him! http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=271872 Aesthetic Realism Foundation Aesthetic Realism Foundation
