------ ON JUNE 15: SALLY NOVACK - "GO WITH THE FLOW: WATERCOLOR BOTANICALS" ------ Summer is the time when nature’s bounty offers the world a showcase of her natural power: with color, magic, and texture, everything is alive and bursting with potential. Celebrate the earth and learn to paint beautiful flowers in bloom and leaves of wonder. In this workshop, we will work in pencil and watercolor paint, which lends itself beautifully to capturing the form and lucidity of botanicals. Starting with sketching, we will build out buds, petals, leaves, and stalk shapes before moving on to fully realized watercolor paintings.

Sally Novak (@sallynovak3) is one of our leading artists at our studio (@CWASDumbo) and has been with our studio since its inception and is a favorite with our students. At the moment, she heads up our online program. Sally Novak is an award-winning Brooklyn-based artist by way of California; she moved to Brooklyn in 2004. She works in a variety of media, including oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas and paper, found objects, and recycled materials. Her current works are environmental explorations on paper rendered in acrylics, graphite, and oil pastels. Her deconstructed topographies are influenced by the natural forms of land, air, and water. Her recent works express a deep concern for our endangered environment and how it’s affecting all forms of life on the planet. Each painting prompts the viewer to consider the necessity to be responsible custodians of our planet among the climate change deniers. What action, no matter how small, can each of us do to stem the tide of climate change? Sally's work is collected worldwide.
