Bryant Park’s iconic “Reading Room” has returned, offering visitors free use of books, newspapers, and magazines.

With a storied history in the park, the Bryant Park Reading Room provides books, newspapers, and magazines in the park during warm weather months. Featured events including author appearances, writers’ workshops, and a variety of programs are expected to resume later in the summer. Initiated in 2003 by the Bryant Park Corporation, it is a revival of the original Reading Room which was founded in August 1935 by the New York Public Library to entertain unemployed workers during the Great Depression. It is currently open daily from 11:30 AM to 6:30 PM, weather permitting.

Covid-19 precautions: Visitors are encouraged to wash their hands before and after using reading materials and are offered complimentary gloves. Used books will be placed under quarantine for 72 hours before they are made available again. Photo Credit – Getty Images
