Fleurine & Boys from Brazil
Vocalist Fleurine has caused a stir with her new band Boys from Brazil, playing at Birdland regulary as well as at New York Winter Jazz Fest and Festivals around the world. The vocalist who is famous for her " appealingly mellow tone, focuses on Brazilian music with an evocative jazz lilt. " (The NYTimes) Brazilian chic has nudged its way for two generations into pop and jazz, but few insinuate as distinctively candid and original an interpretation as does vocalist Fleurine on this samba set. Her tender, personal, smile-through-the-tears lyrics- some in Portuguese, some her translations from Portuguese or original English lyric- come through on this set of pretty, haunting tunes. (DOWNBEAT MAGAZINE) "Fleurine's emphasis is on musicality; in each case, her warm, enveloping sound and gentle, rhythmic drive transform the songs into something well beyond the original sources. And the inclusion of some well-crafted originals, attest to the broad reach of her talents" (Los Angeles Times) "Golden-voiced beauty Fleurine continues to practise her cunning brand of vocal wizardry on her sublime American release." (JazzTimes) BOYS FROM BRAZIL = Kevin Hays Piano, Yotam Silberstein- guitar, Ian Faquini - acoustic guitar, Doug Weiss - Acoustic Bass & Pablo Silva- Drums Fleurine - voice & guitar
