Multi-talented instrumentalist and modern-day vaudevillian vocalist Bryce Edwards makes his solo debut at Birdland Theater with “The Bryce Edwards Frivolity Hour.” The acclaimed troubadour presents a variety show that enthusiastically reviews traditional jazz and popular music from the 1910s, 20s, and 30s, bringing his singular verve and sensibility to songs made famous by artists such as Bing Crosby, Ted Lewis, Cliff Edwards, and more. Taking cues from the crooners of the era, as well as the bombastic voices of the acoustic phonograph era, Edwards accompanies himself on a myriad of instruments, including banjo, ukulele, tenor guitar, and mandolin. In between musical numbers, Edwards gleefully delivers snappy dialogue and witty banter, providing a timeless night of entertainment and fun. Joined by extraordinary jazzmen Scott Ricketts (cornet), Ricky Alexander (clarinet, tenor saxophone), Conal Fowkes (piano), and Jay Rattman (bass saxophone), Edwards brings his delightfully idiosyncratic and eccentric performance style to Birdland’s most intimate space.
