Fundraiser for Ukraine
Learn More |
On February 24, 2024, the second anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, cultural activist and producer Daria Kolomiec is organizing a charity event in New York City in support of Ukraine.
The event will begin with a monologue from the American actress Zuzanna Szadkowski, known for her participation in the TV series "Gossip Girl," "The Gilded Age," "Girls," "Three Women," and others. Zuzanna will read the story of Olena Nikulina, the wife of an Azov regiment soldier, the defender of Mariupol Maksym Nikulin, who is currently in Russian captivity. Olena recorded her diary in the spring of 2022 for Daria Kolomiec's Diary of War project. These are the voice messages of Ukrainians about their experience of living through a full-scale Russian invasion, recorded at the beginning of the big war and released in a podcast format. Olena Nikulina told how she drove from Mariupol with her five-year-old son, how she found out about her second pregnancy when her husband was at the Azovstal plant surrounded by Russian troops, about her belief in Ukrainian victory, and how she's been waiting for Maksym to return from captivity.
In addition to the public readings this evening, Daria Kolomiec will play a DJ set of Ukrainian music – from 1960s pop music to modern electronics. DJ and electronic producer Zenon Marko will also play his set. Musical performances are being prepared by the New York collective Ukrainian Village Voices, which researches and preserves Ukrainian traditional polyphonic singing, and musician Andrii Kovalyov.
Charitable works of art and merchandise will also be sold at the event - the American artist of Ukrainian origin, Maya Hayuk, and the Ukrainian tattoo studio Black Hearts Club, which provides a venue for the event, are responsible for this direction. All guests will be offered to join a charity auction.
All funds from the event will be directed to the NGO "Women's Veteran Movement" (Ukraine) to purchase winter uniform sets and cover other needs of female defenders of Ukraine.
