2019 Holiday Handmade Cavalcade
2019 Holiday Handmade Cavalcade Will Feature Over 50 NY Handmade Collective Designers and Makers at NYC’s Only Independent Craft Holiday Shopping Event
New York, N.Y., Dec. 1, 2019...The NY Handmade Collective (NYHC) will bring its highly anticipated annual holiday shopping event to Brooklyn and Manhattan for the 12th time! This unique shopping market will take place on December 7-8, from 11am-6pm, at the Brooklyn Historical Society in Brooklyn Heights. From December 9-15,10:30am-7:30pm, the event will be held at Chelsea Market in Manhattan. The NYHC is a nonprofit group of over 200 independent artists and crafters who live and/or work in and around New York City. The Holiday Handmade Cavalcade is the only maker-produced, all-volunteer craft market in the city.
As the name suggests, the NYHC is a local organization, dedicated to making the things it sells with value placed on working together to achieve its creative and professional goals. This spirit infuses all NYHC's events, which is "a chance to share not only what we create and the community we’ve built, but also how and why we do what we do and why it matters," say the organization's leaders.
Shoppers will find a carefully crafted selection of one-of-a-kind, handmade gifts including unusual, unique jewelry, greeting cards, artwork, beauty products, clothing, baby items, holiday ornaments and decor, and more, in a warm and inviting atmosphere -- a festive experience they can share with neighbors, friends, and family, rather than a hectic chore. Shoppers will have an unsurpassed opportunity to see, feel, touch, and smell these items and learn directly from their creators about what inspired them, while establishing relationships with the people who make what you love to give (and get!). As the world’s most vibrant online marketplace for handmade products, presenting sponsor Etsy appreciates the work of the collective. NYHC was originally founded as an Etsy team, and many of its members have successfully used Etsy's platform to build their own business. On hand to show support for the NYHC community are sponsors Purl Soho and NYDesigns. Purl Soho is noted for its fresh approach to traditional fiber arts. Shoppers who are not able to visit its very special flagship store in NYC can still access this much-loved resource for natural fibers, high quality supplies, and modern design from anywhere in the world through its website: purlsoho.com.
For the first time NYDesigns is joining the collective as a sponsor. NYDesigns is a hardware and design incubator and maker space that is part of LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City. Its 5,000-square-foot FabLab includes 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, and a full woodworking shop. Open to community members through memberships and workshops for makers of all levels, it also offers custom fabrication services.
The NY Handmade Collective, formerly known as the Etsy NY Team, is an eclectic group of independent artists, artisans, designers and crafters from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut united through Etsy, an online marketplace for handmade goods. With more than 200 members working in a variety of media, the team forms a strong, supportive community, which provides a forum for artistic growth and professional development.
