Andrea Wolper, Ron Affif, & Ken Filiano
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Reunited and it feels so good! The erstwhile trio of Andrea Wolper, Ron Affif, and Ken Filiano reunites at Café Bohemia.
“Smoky classics, bluesy originals, and a handful of offbeat songs all the more welcome for being underexposed… Guitarist Ron Affif and bassist Ken Filiano wrap their strings gently around Wolper's rich voice.” (Time Out New York)
“An audacious artist [who] flouts genre limitations, singing songs for the love of it and delivering an inventive, thrilling, appealing musical vision,” Andrea Wolper appears in her NY home base and tours in the U.S. and abroad. New York performance credits as headliner include The Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca Cola (Jazz at Lincoln Center), Mezzrow, NY JVC Jazz Festival, 55 Bar and more.
In the early 2000s, Andrea’s trio with guitarist Ron Affif and Ken Filiano was a fixture at New York jazz clubs and beyond, culminating in the 2005 recording, “The Small Hours” (VarisOne.Jazz). Noted for strong group sound and sympathetic interplay, the CD was lauded as “gorgeous,” “one of the strongest and most interesting vocal efforts of the year.”
In addition to leading her own groups, Andrea has appeared as a side person with artists across jazz genres, from the Heavenly Big Band to Jay Clayton to William Parker, and her recordings as both leader and side person have landed on many "Best of Year" lists. One of the "great jazz singers" in "The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide” (Yanow, Back Beat Books), Andrea is also recognized as a gifted songwriter: Cadence Magazine calls her "easily superior to the ever expanding population in the singer/songwriter category,” and she’s been awarded a number of composing fellowships.
