AN ASIAN AMERICAN FILM THING is celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month by screening short films by Asian-American filmmakers. There will be an introduction with the filmmakers and a musical treat at the end of the event. Hosted by Angel Yau and Joon Chung. We wanted to focus shorts that show Asian- Americans in a light that Hollywood usually never portrays as. This night will explore Identity and the power of visual storytelling. Hosts: Joon Chung is a comedian born and raised in Staten Island, NY. He has been featured as a Young Staten Island Talent to Look for in 2016, performed in the Staten Island Comedy Festival. He was a 2017 fellow in the Sesame Street Writers' Workshop Fellowship. Television raised him with help from his parents. He is currently a Creative Producer at Gizmodo Media Group. Angel Yau is a comedian, storyteller and filmmaker from Queens, New York. She is a 2018 NBC diversity showcase finalist. She started her comedy career (unintentionally) when she ran for her high school election. She has been featured on Joe Mande's Award-Winning Comedy Special- her first Netflix thing and the Funny or Die short film, Soojung Dreams of Fiji- her first Amazon thing! She is proudly part of the first ever all Asian, all female, musical sketch group, AzN PoP! She is currently on the UCB Maude Team, "What Would Do." She has stop-motion animation series on youtube where she explores her childhood in solitude, rejection and alienation.
