She has interpreted her cluttered thoughts as a series of fiber sculptures, presented here in a wall-to-wall installation. These pieces are three-dimensional diary entries, and questions that Martin has been asking herself. The threads tangle and bulge with uncertainty. Her personality becomes familiar; the more she works, the better the audience can know her. When you enter the installation, you are inside Martin's head. 38 Voices in My Head will have open hours Thursday, October 19 - Saturday, October 21, as part of the 14th Annual Garment District Arts Festival! Learn more about the festival here. About the Artist "You can't take this seriously." - Juliet Martin Juliet Martin makes her viewers see the message beyond the joke. She illustrates personal stories with satirical forms, painful punchlines, and caustic visual one-liners. She is not always funny, but she is always sincere. She courts the viewer with humor, laughing until it hurts. By creating perilously funny images, she shows you emotive depth. She wants you to laugh at what you see and then cry a little. Martin has a BA in Visual Arts from Brown University, an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts, and is a member of the SAORI Leadership Committee based in Osaka, Japan. She has been a part of the fiber arts community for six years, having had solo shows at locations including Saint Peter's Church, New York, NY; Sumei Multidisciplinary Arts Center, NJ; Creative Arts Workshop, CT; Garrison Art Center, NY; Artworks Gallery, NJ; and Saori Kaisak Gallery, Osaka, Japan. For more information about Juliet's work and past shows, please visit her website at http://www.julietmartin.com/ She can also be contacted at girl@julietmartin.com to schedule an appointment for viewing the show, followed on Instagram or Facebook. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=253533 Chashama Chashama
