With a solid background in jazz studies, a deep connection to Portuguese traditional music – Fado – and endless hours of listening to Brazilian legendary musicians, Sofia's artistry challenges the boundaries of music labels. Well-known for her strong, emotional and uplifting performances, the multi-awarded singer has captivated audiences all over the world with her warm and charming sound. With over eight albums as a leader, she has been touring intensively all over the world for the past fourteen years. She won several international vocal prizes, including "Voicingers" (Poland, 2008), "Crest Jazz Vocal" (France, 2010) and Brussels "Young Jazz Singers" (Belgium, 2005). Her previous album "Ar" received the prize "Révélation" from the famous Jazzman/Jazz Magazine (Paris), and she's nowadays an artist in residence at the Carnegie Hall. Blending elements of jazz, Brazilian and Portuguese music, this project is the result of the powerful combination of this exceptional singer's talent as a vocalist and composer with the brilliant arrangements and production of Colombian pianist Juan Andrés Ospina, including several original compositions, 'fados', songs from South America and adaptations of poems by Portuguese and North and South American writers. You will be taken on a journey where emotions, images and poetry interact through Sofia's splendid voice and a superb ensemble of international top musicians, with whom she has been playing since five years, and with whom she recorded her most recent albums "Ar" and "Mar Sonoro". http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=275803 Club Bonafide Club Bonafide
