Young People’s Chorus of New York City’s (YPC) School Choruses program, an in-school music, education, and performance initiative created in 2003 to make YPC’s unique music education and performance program available to more New York City students, presents its annual School Choruses Concert, “Feel the World Dancing.” Under the direction of YPC’s Creative Director, Elizabeth Núñez, the concert features the voices of over 1,000 New York public school children from 15 schools coming together to sing songs they’ve been learning through the program in class all year. The children will join YPC conductors in raising their voices with repertoire that spans classical, folk, pop and jazz while YPC choreographer Jacquelyn Bird invites the audience to partake in dance by demonstrating choreographed moves. Traditionally an exclusive event, this year’s outdoor concert is part of Lincoln Center’s “Summer for the City” festival and is free and open to the public. The concert will include a song list that represents the diversity of New York City, including songs from classical, pop, jazz and folk genres.
