12-07-2019 12:00:00 12-07-2019 12:00:00 America/New_York Dr. Eddie Henderson Quintet | 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm With trumpeter Dr. Eddie Henderson, saxophonist Donald Harrison, pianist Peter Zak, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummer Mike Clark. "His progressive, assured, and imaginative improvisations roll out in a glorious sun-splashed tone… he seems to dance through his solos, balancing his quick clockwork technique with bursts of bluesy soul." – Chicago Reader Dr. Eddie Henderson received his first informal trumpet lesson at age nine from Louis Armstrong, and he was still a teenager when Miles Davis conveyed his admiration for Henderson's playing and encouraged him to pursue music professionally. He's had a remarkable career ever since, leading his own bands and playing in the groups of Herbie Hancock, Pharaoh Sanders, Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes, Max Roach, and McCoy Tyner—not to mention his bandmates in the ongoing all-star group The Cookers. For a set of straight-ahead jazz and soulful post bop played by one of our modern trumpet greats, swing by Dizzy's Club and check out the Dr. Eddie Henderson Quintet. http://www.cityguideny.com/eventinfo.cfm?id=387813 Dizzy's Club Dizzy's Club
