VICTIMS OF SIN Screening/ Cinematographer Q&A
Opening our Spring Music Series is Janus' new 4k digital restoration of Emilio Fernández’s VICTIMS OF SIN, a pearl of Mexico’s golden age of cinema. Starring Ninón Sevilla, the story follows Violeta, a rumbera, who defies the underground criminal world to protect an abandoned child.
We’re thrilled to welcome Emmy-nominated and award-winning cinematographer Alejandro Mejía (@alejandromejiadop) as our post-film guest. As an admirer of Gabriel Figueroa, he will discuss Figueroa’s contributions to the film, including his signature use of chiaroscuro lighting, striking compositions, and interplay of light and shadow. The discussion will be a look into Figueroa’s lasting influence on cinema and Mejía’s perspective as a cinematographer.
Join us at Film Noir Cinema, on Saturday, Feb. 22nd at 7pm. (122 Meserole Ave.) (www.filmnoircinema.com)
