Vivian Maier: Unseen Work
"Vivian Maier: Unseen Work" is the first major retrospective in the United States of "invisible artist" Vivian Maier, whose excellent photography went unseen during her lifetime. A NYC native, Maier began to photograph the world around her while working as a nanny. It wasn't until someone discovered her photographs at a thrift auction that her talent truly came to light. The exhibition charts her body of work from the early 1950s to the mid-1980s through approximately 200 works: vintage and modern prints, color, black and white, and Super 8 films and soundtracks. Maier was a prolific photographer and took photos well into the 90s, eventually leaving behind over 100,000 negatives.
This exhibition is supported by Women In Motion, which highlights gender inequalities in the arts.
