Ghosts of Our Town
Acclaimed London-based Mexican designer Fernando Laposse’s first solo exhibition at the gallery pulls focus to local people and cultures where the materials he uses in his designs originate. Known for his passionate interest in sustainability, reversing the loss of biodiversity and community disenfranchisement, Laposse collaborates with indigenous Mexican communities using native plants to create contemporary design pieces. Questioning the ethics of agriculture and production via its waste products, he focuses on three materials for this exhibition: corn, agave, and avocado. Ghosts of Our Towns will feature new work and several of his signature pieces including “furry chairs,” large format tapestries depicting portraits of farmers that Laposse works with, and a documentary film.
