Getting Closer: Susan Meiselas
Join documentary photographer Susan Meiselas and Kristen Lubben, Executive Director of Magnum Foundation, for a special after hours in-gallery conversation focusing on Meiselas’ project A Room of Their Own, currently on view in Close Enough: New Perspectives from 12 Women Photographers of Magnum at ICP.
Meiselas’ project filling ICP's two-story gallery wall documents survivors of domestic abuse living in shelters in the Black Country and features large photographic prints, video elements, a new book, and testimonies and artworks. The multi-year project involved working with an illustrator and writer alongside the survivors. With the project as a backdrop, Meiselas and Lubben will discuss the evolution of A Room of Their Own, highlighting the role of participation and collaboration within image-making.
On view through January 9, Close Enough: New Perspectives from 12 Women Photographers of Magnum presents pivotal projects in the careers of 12 contemporary women photographers of Magnum Photos, the pioneering photography collective. Each of the photographers narrates their creative journey, providing vantage points into the extraordinary relationships they create within global situations, communities, and individual subjects.
