The saxophonist's latest release is Classic! Live At Newport – his 20th and final album for Blue Note Records – and this engagement will pair his golden horn with the wonderfully adept rhythm section of pianist Lawrence Fields, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Lamy Istrefi Jr. As a leader, Joe Lovano has released some 26 albums since 1985's Tones, Shapes & Colors (Soul Note) including his GRAMMY Award–winning 52nd Street Themes (Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, 2000). As a sideman, he's worked with some of the best in the business including Steve Kuhn, Charlie Haden, and especially drummer Paul Motian with whom Lovano recorded seventeen albums from 1982–2006. "Lovano…fully justifies the growing view of him as an important, world–class jazz talent." (Los Angeles Times) "The tenor titan for our times!"
