Lage Lund – 'Terrible Animals'
This Jazz Standard one–night stand heralds the release of Terrible Animals – the new Criss Cross CD by Lage Lund. This is the first new release in three years by the "fluent, precise and clean–toned guitarist" (Mike Hobart, Financial Times, 2015) and the successor to 2016's Inspired, which featured Peter Bernstein and the late John Abercrombie. Born 1978 in Skien, Norway and a New York resident since 2002, at age thirteen Lage Lund gave up a promising skateboarding career (!) to begin his journey towards becoming not only one of the finest guitarists of his generation, but also one of the most compelling jazz artists in the world today. A regular in the "Rising Star – Guitar" category in the DownBeat Critics Poll, his playing was hailed as "all music and all soul" by fellow guitarist Russell Malone, one of the judges who awarded Lund top prize in the 2005 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Armed with a mastery of the standard repertoire and a growing and impressive body of original compositions, Lage Lund commands a staggering harmonic sophistication and a singularly fluid voice as a soloist: Not for nothing has he been able to enlist musicians of the caliber of Bill Stewart, Edward Simon, and Aaron Parks for his ten albums as a leader or co–leader.
