Experimental Drypoint with Kate Liebman
In the “Experimental Drypoint” class, students will learn how to make and print drypoint plates using traditional and non-traditional methods. During in-class demonstrations, guided printing, and discussions, with suggested assignments that progress in complexity, students will experiment with materials such as sandpaper, nails, etching needles, burnishers, thumbtacks, roulettes, Caran d’Ache crayons, and vellum stencils. Students will learn how to think about images in reverse, wipe a plate, and register plates for multicolor printing. There will be brief presentations of contemporary and historical artists who have used this method. Students are provided with 16 hours of studio time outside of class to complete projects. Course fee includes materials.
