Oil-based Monotype Weekend Workshop
Fee includes all materials and 8 hours of studio time.
This two-day workshop will teach the basics of monotype printmaking with an emphasis on oil- based media. Participants will use a combination of oil paint, lithography ink and oil pastel to create unique, one-of-a-kind works. We will explore different mark-making tools, printing methods and paper types. Students will come away from the class with a basic understanding of monotype technique and of how it can be applied to their current artistic practice.
Rachel Burgess is an artist based in New York City. Her monotypes combine elements of oil painting, folk art and commercial illustration to explore the ways we tell stories about our lives. Her work has appeared in Hyperallergic, Art New England and The New York Times; recent exhibitions include Ortega y Gasset Projects, the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art and the Janet Turner Print Museum. Burgess holds an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Art and a B.A. from Yale University.
