You need no experience or training. As a coach, you'll support and encourage students as they work on their projects. This writing workshop needs your help at a Washington Heights middle school. To sign up, contact volunteer@behindthebook.org with program code 3286LT-T. - Monday, May 20th / 10:30 - 11:20 AM (please arrive 15 minutes early for an orientation) - About the program: Sixth-graders read "I Survived: Hurricane Katrina, 2005", the third book in a series by Lauren Tarshis. The fictional account of a boy and his dog living through the devastating storm inspired students to research the causes of hurricanes, how humans contribute to creating them, and the impact on communities. Writing coaches will guide groups in developing news-based scripts for presentation to the class.
