Lee Fields, Snacktime, The Jazztronauts
Community radio station MakerParkRadio.nyc presents a summer weekend event packed with four hours of funk and soul headlined by legendary soul singer Lee Fields on Friday, September 13 at Maker Park, Staten Island. The day opens with two East Coast bands well known for getting parties started – Philadelphia seven-piece funk band Snacktime and funky Staten Island fusion band The Jazztronauts. The show is all ages (10 and under are free), with food and drink vendors available. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
Lee Fields is an American soul singer, sometimes nicknamed "Little JB" for his physical and vocal resemblance with James Brown. Hailed by Rolling Stone for “his classic American soul sound,” Lee Fields is arguably the greatest pure soul singer alive today. In an age when the shelf life of an artist largely depends on posturing and trends, he has proven to be an unassailable force of nature. His prolific five-decades-plus career spans more than twenty albums and over forty singles.
Snacktime is Philadelphia’s already-beloved seven-piece band, blazing a path cut from their soul, funk, punk, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B influences. Created during the height of the pandemic, the group began performing free shows that combined their love of music, food, and togetherness in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square. They quickly amassed huge crowds and became a symbol of positivity and lockdown release, while showcasing the richness of their city’s musical history and community. This progressed to sold-out headlining shows, curation of neighborhood festivals, multiple appearances at Philadelphia 76ers halftime shows, and slots at major music festivals. They are presently on tour with Portugal. The Man.
The Jazztronauts are Staten Island's funkiest fusion band. Focusing on improvisational performances that incorporate their love of jazz, funk, hip hop, and electronic music. Their sounds have been dubbed future jazz by listeners and their shows have quickly become a gathering place for music lovers and nightlife aficionados.
