Blessing of the Animals
(New York, N.Y.) Cats, dogs, rabbits and quite possibly a guinea pig or a parrot are expected to attend Marble Collegiate Church’s “Blessing of the Animals and Fellowship on Fifth,” on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 12:15 p.m. in front of Marble’s historic Sanctuary at 1 West 29th Street on the corner Fifth Avenue.
Making its return after a two-year hiatus, Marble’s “Blessing of the Animals” begins immediately following Sunday’s 11 a.m. service, rain or shine, as part of its weekly “Fellowship on Fifth” gatherings.
“From lizards to llamas, the Lord has made them all. I hope everybody comes to our annual blessing of the animals. At Marble, all are welcome,” said Dr. Michael Bos, Senior Minister, Marble Collegiate Church.
Congregants attending the 11 a.m. worship service with their furry, feathered or scaly companions will be seated in Marble’s downstairs Labyrinth Room where they’ll be able to participate with other pet families. In lieu of bringing real animals, children are encouraged to bring their favorite plush animals, and for those whose pets aren’t seasoned travelers, participants may bring a photo for a blessing.
Representatives from PAWS (People Are Wonderful Support) NY will also be on hand to share information about its services designed to help vulnerable New Yorkers care for their pets.
